This was such a disappointment. We arrived to the sound of non-stop ATVs, no camp host, and no available wood for purchase. The ATV noise, while expected was very loud and went past the midnight cut off. Not only can you hear the engine sounds from Sand lake, but many riders decided it would be fun to drive around the campground over and over, revving their engines as as they circled. I don't know if they were drunk or just inconsiderate... or maybe both. The beach is not very large, but is in a cove so the waves are gentle, but there were lots of jelly fish so I am not sure I would have wanted to swim. The cove was too far inland to see the ocean so we ended up driving to cape lookout to buy wood and enjoy the beach there. In the morning, the ATV noise didn't start until 730, so at least we got a few hours of enjoying our site. This would be a great place if you like to stay up all night partying and driving your ATV, not so much if you actually want to get out and enjoy nature...

If you’re into riding ATV, off road vehicles or dirt bikes, then this is the place to be. This could be a good place to stay…but there are drawbacks. Many sites are left dirty, in the 3 days we were there, the 2 bathrooms we used had never been cleaned. While a ranger does drive around, they don’t appear to do anything other than that. And that includes enforcing any of the rules. Just a few examples, only 2 vehicles per site, but there were several sites that had up to 6 vehicles and multiple tents, if a site was empty but reserved , people would just pull in, set up and use it a day use site. The campground speed limit is just a suggestion. ATVs/off road vehicles went through occupied campsites constantly. There is a supposed curfew between midnight and 6am for running off road, but people apparently...

I have been staying here once a month during May-August every year for the past 10 years with my friends. Not anymore. The rules that were strictly enforced 5 years ago are not currently being enforced. Last weekend multiple sites by us had 4 to 6 tents in them. Trucks and trailers parked in the grass. Hispanic groups across from us played music very loud from about 1 pm to 7 pm. We could not hear our music at our site. The groups across from us party until 3 am. Making it difficult to go to sleep. We were told by the camp host and the rangers that there was nothing they could do on anything above. Their hands are tied. Bathrooms are filthy.

This use to be a fun and somewhat quiet place to be in the evening. Not anymore. Really sad. Not worth spending my money anymore to be a customer...

We stayed in site 71 in March. About 1/2 of the sites were flooded so keep that in mind for the winter months. The bathrooms were really clean, and there were multiple. The fire rings were perfect for s'mores or even a cooking whole meal. We did not know this was a common campground for ATVs. We were looking for a quiet coastal camp, but the ATVs ended up not being an issue. Everyone was respectful of quiet hours and was safe driving around the camp. If you're into ATVs definitely a great spot. There was also personnel there 24/7. When a camper left a huge fire unattended, they stopped by not even a few minutes later to contain it. Also the direct access to the beach was awesome. Sites were only $25 a night and discounts for pass holders were offered (50% off) Highly recommend.

If you live for the dune-buggy life and like smelling gasoline first thing in the morning and last thing in the night and nothing else matters - 5* If you're a group who don't know better and want a cool calm and clean campsite to hang out by the beach - 1* The toilets are hardly cleaned - filthy most of the time , no showers, fire pit was full of glass shards and melted cans. Picnic tables filthy, dog poop in camp spots. The rules say it's totally fine for noisy buggies to wake u up till 12am. In practice, there are people riding well past that and revving for no reason in the campground. The good - Great night skies, I presume great sunsets if you manage to walk over without being run over by buggies doing donuts - there is no real separate path for people on foot.

Laid back campground. Easy walk to salt lake. Easy drive in. Our campground was sand and my son loved it. Cement picnic tables. There was a lot of little trash at our site when we arrived but the Easy access to ocean and lake made up for that. Cute ground squirrels and birds. Glad it had a separate area for just beach people. It was cool to see the crabs in the water. Most atv people were really chill and went straight to atv area but one group was endlessly reving in the campground. Very annoying. 5 miles from Cape Kiwanda (almost thought I was in California) which was absolutely gorgeous and surrounded by expensive and delicious restaurants. Bring all groceries before you arrive.
