When my family (a big group of 46 people) decided to book a place where we could all stay together to celebrate my dad’s 80th birthday, we looked at over a dozen options in Utah and Idaho. Timber Moose Lodge was the most expensive venue we considered, but I personally think it was also the best value for money. It is really such an amazing destination and I’m so glad we chose Timber Moose for this once-in-a-lifetime gathering.
Things we loved: We loved watching the fly-throughs on Youtube before we came, and the lodge did not disappoint! It seemed even bigger in person. The location is beautiful and the patio made a great spot for a family photo. -The whole building is one-of-a-kind and so thoughtfully built and decorated. The lodge is a destination in itself and although I planned some activities, we really didn't need them as there is so much to keep everyone entertained. -The pool is awesome and fit so many of us! There were so many games of basketball in the pool. -There was so much room for our big group to spread out - so many nooks and crannies and great places to chat or hang out. We loved the swing, the hot tub, the crow’s nest, and more. -The Grand Room was the perfect place for us to gather as a group for activities and presentations. Just be sure to time your use of that room when the sun won’t be streaming into the windows too much. -The teens loved the game room and had a great time bunking with cousins. -The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed. Plenty of big sheet pans, huge bowls, pantry space, plenty of knives, multiple crock pots, I think there was more than one Instantpot, two big griddles, and more. This made it possible to keep our big group fed. There is an extra large fridge in the kitchen and two in bedrooms. -The dining room with its big center table and five booths made it possible for us all to eat at the same time - none of the other venues we considered could offer that. There is also additional seating on the lovely adjacent patio.
There is just nowhere else that even comes close to making this amazing experience possible for us the way Timber Moose Lodge did. I don’t think anyone in our family will ever forget our time here.
*There was one challenge that future guests should be prepared for if they come in the hottest part of the year. It was in the low 80s at the start of our stay. When we arrived the lodge was hot and difficult to cool down. Timber Moose Lodge had provided several fans and a few portable swamp coolers in advance. Opening windows and doors, strategically placing fans, and keeping the swamp coolers filled with water helped bring the temperature down to a comfortable level by the second day, but some of the bedrooms were very warm for sleeping that...
Read moreWe are currently at the Timber Moose for my father's 80 th birthday. There are ~45 of us. I will try to be as clinical as possible as different people grant importance to different things.
First, the great. There is so much space. From parking to beds to finding a quiet place away from the din of a huge family gathering, it is a great space. Particularly wonderful are all the various seating areas and the large dining area with plenty of space for dozens of people to sit and eat. The pool is wonderful. On a warm day, you'll want to open some of the doors for a breeze, but what a lovely relaxing (or not so relaxing if you are playing pool basketball with all your nieces and nephews). Great space.
The good. There is lots of pantry storage and large cooking areas, which is great. Maybe I'm just not use to the huge fridge and freezer, but the are only wide. If you expect the depth of a regular refrigerator, you will be out of luck. Luckily there are more kitchen areas outside of the main area. The cooking goes smoothly for the most part, but beware of plugs that may go out in the middle of griddling some pancakes or an oven that just turns off and has to cool down before it lets you turn it on again.
The bad. Let me just be brutally honest (and from my survey this is a universally shared complaint), these are some of the worst beds I have ever laid down on. The bedrooms themselves are nice, the mattresses are just horrible. On the one hand you go sleep in a cabin you aren't expecting the nicest mattress you've ever slept on, but it seems like at the high rates this cabin goes for, you shouldn't have this bad of sleep. Again, across the board, every room. The other problem is the heat. There are large swamp coolers for the big areas and they work wonderfully. When you are hanging out or eating or cooking, very comfortable. When you go to sleep, however, it can be extremely difficult to try to cool down some of the rooms and if you happen to sleep warm, you may have a rough go of it, particularly on these mattresses.
Now, overall for the size of group this space worked very well. Everyone is having a great time and it would be difficult (if not impossible) to find another space that would accommodate all of us. The bad things, however, were very disappointing, particularly for the prices charged at this location.
Give each of those things whatever weight you decide.
Our group has had fun and we don't...
Read moreOur family reunion at Timbermoose Lodge was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the breathtaking mountains of Utah, this incredible lodge gave us the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort, and it ended up being the ideal setting for reconnecting, relaxing, and making lifelong memories.
From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the size and beauty of the property. The panoramic views from the massive windows and wraparound decks were absolutely stunning—sunrises over the mountains, misty mornings, and starlit nights made the entire place feel like something out of a dream.
The lodge itself is exceptionally well-designed for large groups. With so many bedrooms and gathering areas, everyone had their own space while still being able to come together easily. Whether it was morning coffee on the porch, games in the great room, or late-night chats around the fireplace, there was always a spot for connection.
We especially loved the amenities—hot tub, theater room, pool table, and the giant dining table that actually fit our whole family. The kitchen was fully equipped and made preparing and serving meals a breeze, even for a big group like ours. There was a perfect mix of activity and relaxation for all ages—from toddlers to grandparents.
One of the highlights was our group hike on the nearby trails, where we soaked in the mountain air and bonded over shared steps and stories. Back at the lodge, the kids spent hours exploring the outdoors while the adults unwound with good food and laughter.
It’s rare to find a space that can hold a large group without ever feeling crowded, but Timbermoose nailed it. It felt like we had our own private resort. The property is well maintained, the service and communication were excellent, and everything was thoughtfully prepared for a seamless experience.
More than anything, Timbermoose gave us the space and atmosphere to really be with each other—away from distractions and daily routines. Our family came away closer, happier, and already talking about coming back.
If you’re looking for a venue that offers both grandeur and warmth, Timbermoose Lodge is it. We’ll be talking about this reunion for...
