Honest Abe Log and Timber Frame Homes — Hotel in Tompkinsville

My husband and I purchased a log home package in 2024. Paid cash. Waited a reasonable amount of time before the log package was delivered to our property but then the log package just sat on our property, which we rushed to get ready for them, for approximately 4+ months before THEIR construction contractor started the job and complaining how bad he didn’t want to be there. We were told it would be completed in 2 weeks once construction began, it took more like two months with all the mistakes made by the contractor and an additional few more months to get one window for upstairs. We were sold a product in the beginning of superior customer satisfaction and quality design and well as structure for our log home. We were persuaded to use their builders because “if anything goes wrong we back them” is what the company (Josh) told all of us at the Log raising event before we made our decision. The builders that we were assigned were unprofessional and cut corners AT OUR EXPENSE we were left with large gaping holes between logs where they were just not pushed together properly and cut too short to fit. I took picture and complained but we were told they would come back and “fix” the problem. When they came back they just shoved the holes full of caulking and called it good. The contractor was rude and verbally attacked my husband calling him a cheat and a liar several times. When we were asked to pay the final amount for the labor to Honest Abe we told them why we felt that this was not ok. We felt like we were sold a retail priced home with the promise of integrity from their company but were left with a slapped together log cabin with literal holes in it that felt at best second hand…they asked us what amount we thought was fair. Against my good judgement, we told them an amount of $3000 seemed fair to us for all the problems. They came back and told us they would do $1500 off. Ten percent of the remaining labor costs…10%?!?! Really?!?! We felt disgruntled at best. We let them know. There was no change. We were left very dissatisfied.

Update: After my disgruntled reviews were seen by the company, Honest Abe Log Homes, we were contacted by the man over construction (Josh). We discussed the problems and why we were upset. Honest Abe Log Homes did send us a check for the remainder amount of what we had asked...

Having been through this process of building our first log home. I can say with certainty that there is NO other company I would do business with. The staff at Honest Abe went way above and beyond for us from day one! We were shown the process from raw log to complete package and every step in between. Honest Abe even arranged for us to meet with folks who were in process of building, and, with the original family who designed the package we were thinking about using. One of the sales team even took us to his personal Honest Abe home. Ethan Birdwell was our salesman and go to guy. After making a major mistake on porch rafters Ethan and his new wife delivered replacement materials to us. That was a 5 hour drive for them and we weren't even charged. Only a smile and a "Thank you for your business"! Mike was our engineer/architect/ help me please guy! Always available and always had answers to our sometimes silly questions! After visiting several log home manufacturers and some local persons with log homes, I chose Honest Abe Log homes because of impressive seminars of log construction and the professional woodcrafters they have to do the work. Materials arrived in a timely, orderly fashion protected from the elements. I always found a real person when calling the factory at Moss, TN and they never failed to address my questions immediately. A customized floor plan adapted to my property was quickly and adequately provided, financing was painless and as the construction progressed, in-house inspections were frequent and thorough. Instructions for my builder to install doors, windows and cabinets and application of chinking were extremely detailed and clear.
