For many moths I had been receiving Getaway House ads on IG of young, beautiful, well dressed For many months I had been receiving Getaway House ads on IG of young, beautiful models enjoying the country. As a person who loves the outdoors, this appealed to me. One in particular was a couple sharing a pot of coffee in front of a gigantic window. So for my birthday I booked 2 of these cabins for me and my family and was unfortunately let down. I did not feel the ads on IG represent the reality of what this cabin is.|||First, there are no signs leading you to the property, so as my family and I arrived during the evening we were not only afraid, we were lost and trying to reach anyone was challenging because there is no WIFI or service in the area. There are also no lights on the entire property so arriving during the evening was a horrible experience. ||Upon finally arriving and navigating our way through the unmarked forest and backroads, our keycode did not work. And thankfully one of our cellphones was able to get (spotty) service. My friend was able to contact and call the company of which we were so grateful someone answered the phone but we had to text because the service was so spotty. This act of receiving a new code took at least an hour to sort out in the pitch black forrest. ||We understand this is a place to unplug, however, we did not feel safe in the area in which these cabins are placed, the unmarked roads, and lack of GPS led us to questionable winding backroads that led us to nowhere. Thankfully we had enough gas. Had I been low on fuel and been lead down these backroads I’m not sure what would have happened to us and this, alone, is the most concerning and upsetting part of our feedback.||The locals also did not seem happy we were there as one sent a dog to chase my truck and run us off the road. ||At one point it took us over an hour to locate this cabin, and we contemplated calling the police for help as we were afraid for our safety.||Once we got to the cabin, and while we were happy with the size of the bed, the modern aesthetic and great water pressure in the shower, and a staff member giving us free bags of smores, we were disappointed that there was no coffee machine or functional, appropriately sized mirrors. One 4x6 mirror was provided on a hook in a cabinet for someone over 6 feet tall which was very difficult to reach. We each had to hold the mirror for one another as we got ready. ||Also, the IG image of people cozying up near a wall sized window is simply not the case. We had a bunk bed directly in front of the window, which we were not expecting with the 2-bed cabin we rented. Our view was compromised substantially. The pics we saw of the interior of the cabins on IG are unobstructed and seem substantially large for what it actually is.|||There is also no area to place luggage. There is a serious lack of storage. It appears as though perhaps the area for luggage is in front of the large window, which will obstruct the view of the beautiful country we have arranged to be in even more. So we decided to place our bags on the “dining” table. In order to reach that “suitcase storage” area, the suitcase/duffle bags need to be dragged across the bed which is unsanitary. |||I did not feel prepared for these cabins. It would have been very helpful to receive an expectation email 72 hours prior to the trip, so we all could be fully prepared. ||We also thought the cabins would be larger and could comfortably sleep 4 people in the cabin,| (as they advertise is possible) but this is NOT possible. ||We ended up leaving 1 day early.||Suggestions: invest in coffee makers, clearly labeled signage starting as early as on the highway, provide an appropriate sized mirror, have a book of emergency contacts on the table including nearest hospital, local police, nearby cafes, things to do (not just on the website, but in the actual cabin) etc. ||I would suggest to this company prior to please do more research on the local area.||Our expectations were not met.||Reduce stress? Read moreThis would’ve been a perfect five star review had it not been for our multiple interactions with packs of stray dogs on the grounds. I understand nature and camping often means the chance of coming across wild animals, but after reporting the instances to them and learning they were aware of the issue and did not warn guests it seems negligent. Our first day we hiked on a marked nature trail with our dog that’s on the property and when we made it to the end, we were chased by an aggressive pack of 3 strays halfway back on the trail. We literally had to sprint and were very afraid. I reported this instance and was told I’d hear back about it, which I did not. The following day went by peacefully, but I should note that every evening we heard a chorus of dogs barking throughout the night and what sounded like right outside of our cabin. It was on the final morning that I learned they really were right outside our cabin when our dog asked to go out around 7am and when I exited our trailer I spotted another, separate, pack of 3 stray dogs laying right behind our cabin and they started to approach and I quickly hurried back inside. I called and made the staff aware that they were parked outside our cabin and asked if they could do anything, they said they would send someone. Of course, after being chased by another pack in the area I was not brave enough to go back out until I was certain they had left the area. A few minutes later I watched the dogs investigate our entire drive and camp area then relocate to the other nature trail by our camp, and I called back to let them know they had relocated there and they said they wouldn’t send someone anymore. They said they were aware of there being stray dogs in the area, and I said they needed to address it so that what happened to us the first day didn’t happen to the other guests who were certain to frequent that trail and hope to find relaxation instead of running from a pack of aggressive dogs. They have a pamphlet in your cabin that warns you about coyotes, bears, and the usual natural critters but considering the amount of interactions we had with these dogs, and they they are aware that this has been an issue, they really need to include warnings for guests. Especially because stray dogs pose a great risk to guests with dogs, and I know that many people will choose to bring Fido...
