We stayed on a Monday night in early September, after Labor Day, for one night. We had been here two years ago, also for one night, as we were passing through. Because it was after Labor Day, the campground (other than some long-term campers) was EMPTY.
The campground is very pretty. There’s a lovely pond, with mature trees for lots of shade, and the grounds are very well kept up. There’s a brand new pool (it’s not very deep, it looked to be only 4.5 feet deep), a nice game room, and a beautiful pavilion. We did not see the office or the store, as we arrived at 4:45 pm, and the office closed at 4 pm. The office was not open again until after check out the next morning (check out is 11 am, the office opens at noon). It’s a large campground, and most sites looked roomy. The dog park was very nice. The laundry room is tight and very narrow, but functional. There were no TV channels. The WIFI was good. There have been a number of improvements since we stayed here two years ago.
The thing that very much annoyed us is the site the office chose for us. We arrived late, after the office closed. The person in the office knew this, because she called us to inquire about our arrival time. She also knew we were only staying for one night. Campground people know if campers are arriving late and staying for only one night, they want to be placed in a site which, if possible, is easy in and easy out. That should have been extremely easy to do, because, as I said, the campground was EMPTY. There were TONS of sites available. We’re getting there late and staying ONE NIGHT, and where do they put us? Way out of the way, up a hill. We had to back up a hill to get into the site. Not drive up a hill to back in, but back our RV up a hill. There were MANY sites all around us which would have been super easy to get into. But they gave us a real pain in the butt site when the campground was empty. It just didn’t make any sense. Why couldn’t we have been put into any one of sites 23 – 28?? All of these were empty, and none of them would have involved backing the RV up a hill! There were so many more reasonable, easier options!
The second thing we thought was not well done was that there was a note on our packet when we checked in. It said the entrance gate closes at 8 pm and reopens at 9 am. As I said, the lady from the office called us before she closed the office at 4:00, to see what time we were coming, but she never asked us if we were leaving the campground that evening or what time we were planning to check out. Apparently, if you go out at night, you can’t get back in after 8 pm. She should have explained that to us. Also, many people who are traveling leave campgrounds early to get an early start on the road. Many campers leave much earlier than 9 am. But again, we didn’t know any of this until we read the note on our map. These times should be noted on the website when a camper makes online reservations, so they can plan accordingly. The office should remind campers of these times when checking in, or speaking to them on the phone about arrival times.
Beautiful campground, but not at all impressed with the lack of common sense the office staff used to choose our site as well as the lack of communication about important issues like lock-out and lock-in times at...
Read moreLet me begin by saying that this review is based solely on my experience camping at Spacious Skies. I am a middle aged man traveling with my wife and towing an 18' travel trailer. In this case, we stayed for five nights, including a weekend. Spacious Skies is a large campground (over 200 sites) undergoing several improvements and updates. Approximately half of the sites are seasonal campers. Our site , 10 B (well, technically 11 B) was at the end of a small point overlooking a central pond. Below are both the negatives and positives of our stay.
At check-in we were assigned site 10 B. It was a little awkward getting positioned. The trees and decorative rocks all seemed to be right where I wanted to go. The biggest annoyance, however, was the bathroom situation. We opted for a partial hook-up site (power and water, no sewer), but the two bath houses were quite a ways off. The facilities themselves were dated and could use a serious remodel, and the shower stalls were tight. I'm 6'1", 225 lbs and felt like I was showering in a coffin. Big picture, though, is that everything worked and it was clean. That's pretty much it for the negatives.
As for the positives, I'll start with our site. It was very large with views of the pond on three sides. The pond was well maintained and provided entertainment in the forms of swimming at the small beach area, paddling around in a paddle boat, or catch-and-release fishing. Or you could just sit and enjoy watching it all. The seasonal campers were very quiet, even on the weekend. There was a small uptick in kids running around, but this is a FAMILY campground, after all. Speaking of kids, there are going to be two playgrounds. One is brand new and the other is yet to be assembled. Finally, I'd like to include in the list of "positives" the campground managers. On our last evening there we had a very pleasant conversation. They seem very interested in making sure everyone has a pleasant camping experience.
Now, we did have one issue that I truly believe was a simple, isolated mistake. When making reservations we selected site 11 B. When we checked in we were assigned 10 B. We didn't think twice about the change, however, because A.) we didn't pay the extra fee to "lock in" our site, and B.) it was close enough on the map we frankly didn't notice. It was no big deal until our fourth night when another camper showed up with "10 B" on his hang tag. Apparently, we had been assigned the wrong site at check in (an understandable mistake) and it wasn't caught until someone else booked "our" site. What impressed me most was how it was handled. We weren't asked to move and the other camper was given another site that was probably a better option, anyway.
All in all this was a very pleasant stay and I would recommend Spacious Skies to anyone interested. It's not some high end RV "resort", but it's comfortable, welcoming, and they are making improvements to...
Read moreI have been here when it was owned by Woodland Hills and had an awesome time. The people running it were friendly and very helpful if something was broken or if you had a question about anything they were helpful and friendly. They had activities for the kids every weekend a very friendly and family oriented.NOW my experience with the new management Her name is Melody, was less than welcoming or friendly . I pulled in and all the playgrounds for the kids are gone no activities at all broken water spikets. All of the seasonal were moved after they already paid for the spots they were in and they were told if they didn’t like it they could leave with no refund. 3600 dollars when it was 2400 for the season with less to do. Also can’t take garbage to dumpster because it’s overflowing. Warning do not go to the office for any Questions because you will get screamed at and threatened that you will be told to hook up and leave by the manager Melody. When I left I rode around to look at the other sites the only place there were campers were the seasonal section and that’s only because they already paid and I talked to at least 4 other campers that said they will not be back next year. But the other parts looked like a ghost town . When it was owed by Woodland Hills and not a corporation was so much better. I will be contacting the corporate office but probably won’t get anywhere so if you want a nice and friendly family welcoming camping experience At a reasonable price I suggest you go elsewhere. If you go on Facebook and comment on their posts they take them down if they don’t like what is said and stop you from being able to...
