I was in town for a band camp held at Bjorklunden- a campus of Lawrence University. While the band camp was awesome- this motel was not. I got the last room available. It is partly my fault as I thought I had a reservation elsewhere, and I did not. My first clue should have been the lack of pictures on the booking site. Pretend you stepped back into the late 1970's motel- when motels were very common. Well- this was back on the 70s with no updates except a small microwave. The bed was awful!!!!!!. The pillows were flat as a pancake-maybe, that's why there were so many extra in bags. All the pillows were overused and needed to be replaced. The mattress was mush with a dip in the middle. I did not sleep well at all. There was one small light by the side of the bed. The side furthest from the door. You had to walk around the bed to turn on the light. Given I came in at night, both nights, I did not appreciate that at all. There was a sheet and 1 thin blanket along with the| pancake pillows. It was cold in the evenings and there was a heater in the wall but it did not work well. You turned the dial until it went on and then enjoyed the musty smell of an old heater. After a while, it went off. As the room cooled down, the heater did not go back on- you had to turn the dial further to get it to go on. I played this heater game the entire first night and was cold all night. Since personal service is not available there, I emailed the " person" and asked for a blanket. One was delivered while I was gone, along with an email about the heater. I'm not dumb-I saw the heater - it just doesn't seem to have a thermostat. I thought by the 70's thermostats had been invented. I would like to say the 2nd night was better but I can't. I do excersises on the floor every night for my back. The first night, I was not going to get down on that very dark carpet. At least I could put the blanket down the 2nd night. The room had old, dark, musty smelling paneling. I wish I could have opened the window. The bathroom floor was uneven, and there was mold along the tub under the tile. I hate mold in my bathroom. There was a small room that acted as a kitchenette. A higher table and 2 stools. One of those 2 stools was so rickety, I would suggest it be replaced before it breaks with someone on it, and you are open to a lawsuit. The worst part- there was another door that opened to the outside from the kitchenette. It did not lock. All it had was a chain. The door opened more than once, and I did not feel safe. How hard is it to put a door knob that locks from the inside? I would have been more comfortable on an air mattress at a campsite. It was over$200.00 for the 2 nights. That might seem cheap, but when you compared it to what you got, that was no deal. I will never stay there again and am recommending that others demand to see pictures of the room before they rent it. I did not like the email communication. I never talked to a human being the entire time- from booking to leaving. I appreciate the personal touch. So-I wish I could say something positive. These rooms are pet friendly. There was a notice asking patrons not to let pets on the bed or furniture. There was not even a chair to sit in. I have a bad back and sitting propped up in the bed with pancake pillows did not help. A chair would have been welcome. I was so embarrassed about where I was staying-I refused a couple of offers from friends to pick me up for dinner. I did not want them to see where I was staying. So- if you like the 70's plus all the mustinesses that comes with years of no updates- this is the place for you. Awful is the best way to describe the entire experience. Oh- by the way- I did get the blanket I asked for, but that was it. I left used towels on the bathroom floor. They were still there that night. Disgusting and lazy. Coffee grounds from the day before still in the garbage - no one could even straighten the room while they were there. Goes along with no personal service.|I like the cleanliness of the 2000's. If I thought I could get a 50% refund, I...
Read morePros: Cheap and the rooms seem decent sized for what you pay.
Cons: The water smells strongly of sulfur - not how I want to smell coming out of a shower; shower pressure also leaves something to be desired. Triple check they understand your reservations: I thought I was very clear that we were staying TWO nights when I made the reservation (and to be fair I didn't check the confirmation letter), but when we got there Friday night at 9:30pm we were very unhappy to learn we were only booked for 1 night, and had to be out by 10am the next morning (and good luck finding a hotel for Saturday night in Door County the night before!). Just triple check the dates and absolutely read the confirmation letter - this has never happened to us before, but believe I will always check after this!! Don't bother asking them to put any notes on your reservation - we asked them to upgrade us to a cabin if one came open; after finding out we were only staying one night and asking if they had vacancy for a second night, the guy stated, "No - we just had someone cancel their cabin [for that night/weekend] and within 5 minutes of having the [vacancy] sign on it was booked!" Thanks guy, thanks. That could have fixed our problem.
I would have probably given 3 stars if they hadn't screwed up our reservations and ignored our request to be bumped up to a cabin, but after staying up until 11pm trying to find a hotel for Saturday and then getting up at 6:30am to resume the quest, I wasn't feeling...
Read moreRoom has not been redecorated since the Carter Admin. Never been to a motel and these include dives owned by Middle east or Indian owners. No lamp between the beds. To turn light off you must be out of bed and turn switch by door or by opposing wall. I know that 2020 was a bad year with COVID, but here is an owner that is taking advantage of it in 2021. Office hours limited to around 5 from 8-3. No room cleaning or towels during your stay unless requested. It is OK to give less service, but you should adjust your price accordingly. If I traveled to Door Country again I would NEVER stay here again. I would go up in price $30 and stay at a better place or I would travel about 20 miles and stay at the Super 8 located near by. I know everyone works had, but if you own a motel, either you or someone should be on site most of the day. You cannot just forever take from the business and never put back. The light problem could be solved by going to Goodwill and buying a $10 lamp, no need to worry about matching decore! Early nothing is easy to...
