My husband and I just returned today from our 2-day stay (12/9-11/20) and we stayed in the River Birch Room in the back of the lodge that overlook the wetlands. Just keep in mind, this was during Covid. We stayed with the Stay, Wine and Dine special for 2 nights and it was $499 plus tax (this included room and breakfast and dinner for 2).
First, we had a wonderful relaxing AND delicious stay. When we arrived, Carolyn was at the desk and greeted us and gave us some tips on working TV, asked how we liked our coffee in the morning and if we had an dietary restrictions and we were then on our way up to the room on the floor above.
The room was exactly as it appears on the website and we loved the heated bathroom floor (especially during winter) along with robes/slippers and the step-up King bed. We scheduled our dinner for 6:30pm (you can choose your time) and dinner was delivered with a knock to our room door and put on a tray stand outside your door. Each course was delivered ~15 mins. apart which was perfect timing for us. It started with 12 oz. each of choice of wine (we did Cab and Merlot and both were excellent), a tasty cheese ball and crackers, then came our appetizers and salads/rolls -- I got the lobster ravioli which was so yummy, I will I could have had as a main course and hubby got the french onion soup which he said was delicious (we each had the opposite the next night and we both agreed with above). The raspberry dressing on the salads was sooo good (I'm not even a salad person and I ate the salad) and the rolls were slightly sweet and oh so soft and delicate that they almost melt in your mouth. Next were the main courses and desserts -- first night I had the beef short ribs which were tasty and just fell apart on the fork it was so tender and hubby had salmon which he said he would definitely order in the future; second night I had the chicken pot pie which was filled with the most tender chicken, yum, and hubby had the pork shank which fell off the bone! Desserts were the tiramisu which was very good, but the creme brulee was over-the-top which 3 different fruit "gels" (my word, not chef's) around the brulee -- it was delish! Dave the Chef is oh so talented!
Breakfast was another main event! Breakfast consisted of coffee, juice, homemade strawberry yogurt with granola AND a large breakfast sandwich (one day was egg, cheese & sausage on a roll and the other day was egg souffle' with bacon on multigrain bread). Both were exceptional!!
This is a place that you just want to relax and enjoy the meals as it is remote and not a lot of sight-seeing within an hour's drive, but there is Darien Lake State Park in which you can hike and we did.
Carolyn/Dave -- you are an award winning team and can't wait...
Read moreMy husband and I booked a few days here in November 2021 for a little "babymoon". The food, location, and service was incredible and I truly was blown away. I haven't stopped raving about what an amazing time we had. We brought our two little Yorkies with us and the owners treated all of us with respect and were SO caring! Even in November there was things to do - we found a bakery in Corfu, went to the Darien Country Cottage, stopped in Attica and took the dogs for a nice walk, and even tried going out to eat one night. If we were to do it again, I would get all dinners at the River Spring Lodge - food was SOOOOOO good and so worth it! I loved having coffee delivered to my door every morning. We pulled our chairs out on the balcony and enjoyed the sunrise while drinking our coffee. The breakfast - so filling and so delicious! I love that they even give you a snack to hold you over until dinner. The 4 course meal we only did one night, but the incredible amount of food you get... one night was plenty lol.
The room? Also AMAZING. The bathroom has heated floors, the shower was gorgeous and made us feel like we were at an elite resort. The bed was very comfy - they even had a bed for our dogs to relax on! We loved having our food delivered to the room and eating at a very nice table setup inside.
If you are looking for a small getaway that isn't too far from Buffalo or a bed and breakfast type of setting that really delivers - book this place. We cannot wait...
Read moreMy 2 girlfriends and I had the unfortunate experience of encountering Carolyn and Dave this past Friday. We made reservations a month prior after reading reviews and looking at the website. We were all so taken aback by Carolyn's attitude when we "tried " to check in. We were not greeted, or helped in with our luggage. Instead, we were told that no food was allowed in the room. Then Carolyn proceeded to tell us that it would be an extra $50 for the third person (extra toiletries and she electric). Ridiculous! Then, Carolyn left to ask the "chef", Dave, how much more it would be for the breakfast for the 3rd person. Dave came out and told us that the hotel info is all over the website and he didn't understand why WE were confused! Apparently, this is a couples retreat. Three professional young women , expecting to have a little getaway were treated with such rudeness ! There was never an offer to help us find any different accommodations. We were judged the second we headed into the lobby! A couple about our same age came in after us and were immediately welcomed and helped to their room without any question! We were clearly...
