We have been vacationing in the summer at Lapland Lake every year since 2010 (6 years now) and have loved it every time! Believe it or not, we actually came here when I was a teen in the mid-1980s, and returned when we had small children of our own. It's that memorable. There is a wonderful, old fashioned sense about the place. The lake is beyond compare, crystal clear water, no development, a perfect view of water and trees, and a swimming area appropriate for even the smallest children. The kayaks and canoes are so fun to take out on the lake and explore. We bring bikes from the city and the kids love being able to ride around the grounds without fear of cars and up to the lake on their own. The owners Kathy and Paul hold campfires with smores at the lake twice a week in the summer! Best of all, Lapland Lake Resort is a break from the fast paced world of today, with no phones, TVs or wifi other than at the Lodge. I can check my emails at the Lodge (even sitting outside it in an Adirondack chair), but when I walk away from the Lodge, the outside world is forgotten. The cabins are clean, comfortable, and well maintained, with living areas for relaxing and functional kitchens that permit meal prep. Try the Finnish sauna -- it's incredibly relaxing after a day biking and at the lake. Also, Northville now offers some fun things to do, including a great ice cream shop, The Farm Store (farm fresh vegetables, meat, eggs), and a farmers market on Fridays (try the sauerkraut from Conbeers Farm - healthy and delicious). Lapland Lake provides a vacation from times past. I feel grateful to be able to provide this experience for my children, who are growing up with this wonderful place as an important part of...
Read moreThis is a charming, family run cross country ski center, on a beautiful property. I have visited twice.
My first time I stayed in a cabin that we absolutely adored. I think it was my favorite cabin ever. Rustic, yet comfy and well designed, I absolutely loved the kitchen space and cooking meals here. This is the cabin that is right across from the ski lodge and a bonus is you get to see the groomer going out and skiers on the trail. You can certainly have a great visit staying off the property too, but the cabins are really special.
The cross country ski instructor was really great, he did challenge us to improve our skills and we were really better for it.
The ski trails are very well groomed, the whole property is well cared for. I do find the topography here to be slightly better suited to advanced beginners and up especially if conditions are icy.
One really special feature is the snowshoe trail. It leads through the woods out to the lake over tiny bridges. It's good to have a trail on snowshoes. I really enjoyed my hike and it let me see some advanced trails I would not get to on skis.
My friend participated in a clinic for skate skiing, and thought the instruction was top notch.
The lodge has a ski shop, a lounge area with a fireplace, and up the stairs is the cafe area which has a great amount of space and lots of light from big windows. The sell sandwiches and soups and baked goods. I thought the red pepper gouda soup was delicious. You can also bring your own food.
I also think this would be a lovely place to visit in summer, especially if you swim...
Read moreMy husband and I recently discovered this fabulous little vacation spot. We made the 1000 mile round trip trek to Nordic ski at Lapland Lake and it was totally worth it. As an added bonus my husband was able to ice skate on the lake. We spent 5 nights in one of the Tupas and wished for longer. The conditions were not great while we were there but there was plenty of snow and it was well groomed. It snowed again our last day...what fun. The trails snake beautifully through the woods and along streams. The hosts, Kathy & Paul, could not have been any more helpful or accommodating. We enjoyed lunches at the cafe and ordered the home cooked dinners every night which were delivered to our Tupa in the afternoon. We sampled them all and they were all good. We loved not having cell service and did not miss TV. We brought a puzzle to work and enjoy. We were able to get internet in the Tupa (darn) so if you just need a fix it is there. Water in the cottages is excellent. Slept like rocks in our toasty cabin and how nice it is to step outside, put on your skis and go! We'll be...
