Since my boyfriend and I were going to see Chris Stapleton at Bethel Woods Center in Bethel, NY and coming in from CT, we decided to continue with the rural theme and stayed in a cabin at Bethel Pastures in Jeffersonville, NY which is about 6 miles from the concert.
It's like camping in the woods but without having to bring anything. Do bring the bug spray though and get ice for the cooler. You have the cabin with a comfortable bed, a compost toilet and an outdoor enclosed shower. The shower is about 20 feet away from the cabin. The toilet is directly behind the cabin, attached to the cabin. The kitchen is outdoors on the covered front porch and has rocking chairs. It has a sink with running well water, propane stove and pots, pans, dishes, silverware and a cooler.
We loved that there was a robin's nest on the front porch. She just flew away when you came up the stairs.
When you first arrive at the farm, you are greeted by the friendly dog hosts named Leo, a puppy English Springer, and Ozzie. The sheep get let out to graze and you can feed them or just enjoy them walking by. You will surely be greeted by Thelma as she loves humans.
You can go to the coop each morning and collect a few eggs to cook up.
There is a fire pit and chairs next to the cabin along with firewood.
Yeti batteries are provided for electricity. They will recharge it for you each day. There is also a battery operated lantern. I was concerned about not having a/c as it was hot and humid but it gets cooler at night and with the fan on, it was not a problem. The front porch has solar lights.
Mark and Rochelle are wonderful hosts. Mark checked in on us seeing if we were settled and if we needed anything or had questions about how to use anything.
Rochelle's parents are also on the property, Marion and Sol. Marion dropped us off and picked us up from the concert. This was such a big help as you don't have to worry about parking and the roads are difficult to navigate at night if you don't know them and it is very dark. There is no uber in this area.
When we arrived, Sol showed us how to use the propane for the stove, how to turn on the hot water for the shower, how to use the compost toilet. This family could not have been any nicer or friendlier.
Rochelle took pictures and videos of us when we were feeding the sheep.
If you want to go out to a restaurant that is right on a lake, we went to Table and Tap restaurant on Kauneonga Lake and the food was absolutely delicious. We sat on the deck and enjoyed the water view.
The Cacklin' Hen cafe in Youngsville is a great place for breakfast.
We also went to the Woodstock museum. I'd recommend doing that also.
This can be a romantic getaway for a couple or a fun family vacation if you have kids or grandkids or pets.
Was a very pleasant and fun trip and you leave having made new friends with humans, dogs,...
Read moreMy family and I recently returned from a wonderful 4-night stay at Bethel Pastures Farm Bed and Breakfast. It is set in a stunning spot located in the foothills of the Catskills where you wake up to the sounds of roosters crowing and sheep bleating. From even before we arrived, the hosts, Rochelle and Mark, contacted us to learn our names and offer us a warm welcome. Mark met us upon arriving to show us to our cabin and explain how everything (such as the toilet, outdoor shower and battery for light and charging items since there is no electricity in the cabins) worked. We stayed in the Cabin With A View and the name did not disappoint! We woke up to some incredible sunrises over the surrounding hills! The cabin was cozy and clean with a queen bed upon entering and two twin beds in the loft for our kids. The outdoor kitchen comes fully stocked with essentials for making your own meals. We enjoyed cooking breakfast with complimentary fresh eggs from the farm’s chickens and vegetables and herbs from the hosts’ garden.
The hosts are so helpful in giving you information on all there is to do in the area! On the farm itself, we enjoyed feeding the sheep, chickens and Kryptonite (the alpaca), meeting the friendly dogs and cats and walking on the bucolic trails just steps away from the cabins. In the area, we rented Kayaks at Lake Superior State Park, visited The Museum at Bethel Woods (site of Woodstock), hiked to nearby mountain views and waterfalls, tubed down the Delaware River with Lander’s River Trips and shopped and ate in Jeffersonville and other nearby picturesque and charming towns.
Our kids are technically adults at 20 and 18 years old and we do not get to spend as much time with them as when they were young, so our time together here was priceless. We did not completely disconnect from our devices as the cell phone signal at the cabin was excellent, but we did cut back to enjoy each other’s company and conversation while sitting around our nightly campfires (with wood provided) and gazing up at a sky full of stars.
Rochelle and Mark are friendly, warm and accommodating. They really did go above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed to make our stay all that we had hoped for and more.
P.S. For a special treat, stop by Meyers Century Farm just a few miles aways for freshly made ice cream...
Read moreJust returned from an overnight here with two friends to celebrate a friend's special birthday. I selected Bethel Pastures because I was looking for a relaxing and rustic place that reminded me of spending summers as a child in upstate New York--aka "the country." We really had no idea what to expect--and, honestly, it exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, Rochelle and Marc were the most gracious and friendly hosts, continually asking what they can do for us, recommending good restaurants (also better than what we expected), engaging in friendly conversation, and, most of all, going out of their way to do some special and sweet things for the "birthday girl." The accommodations were charming and clean; with a room plenty big with three beds for the three of us and a private bath. The breakfast was fresh and lovely--and included homemade apple pie and the egg I picked from the hen house the day before. Sheep, chickens add to the ambience; there are also cats and a dog (I'm not a cat/dog person but the situation was manageable for me, given that they were outside). The country atmosphere was perfect. What can be more relaxing than sitting on an adirondeck chair on an expansive porch? You should make time lots of time for that--as well as for exploring the Museum at Bethel Woods and other sites in the area. The whole time I was at the B&B, I was thinking about when I can come back and who I would like to...
