My husband and I stayed at the Caldwell Bed & Breakfast for two nights for a much needed rest. We stayed in the Antrim, which is in the main house, and it was wonderful. The room is beautiful with a nice fireplace. Bathroom has a nice big rain shower and robes are supplied, so you can wrap yourself in one when you come out of the shower. All the rooms are equipped with a flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and an iPad for your personal use. There’s a small pantry with coffee, tea, hot chocolate and little things to nibble on, if you so desire. The porch, in the main house, has nice comfy chairs and the common areas in the main house are great to putter around in. I enjoyed having a cup of tea and just looking through the books and magazines that are there for you. If you prefer a glass of wine, you can do that also. It just felt like home. On our first evening my husband and I smelled something delicious baking. I thought, wow, what is Dena making? Can’t wait for breakfast to see what she made. That evening when we got back to our rooms, there were two pieces of homemade apple pie waiting for us. What a treat. It was delicious, and such a nice touch. Dena is a great cook and a gracious hostess. Dena and John are there to make your stay as pleasant as possible, and they do. We will definitely go again. Oh, I almost forgot. If you’re wondering where to have dinner, we had great Italian food at the Bella Luna, which is only about four miles away and the best French food, which is on par with French restaurants we’ve gone to in NYC, called the Vinum, which is about two miles away. I think we need to make this place our home away from home at least twice a year! Can’t wait for...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews online, but after such an incredible stay at the Caldwell House, I had to write to let others know. My wife and I stayed here for a weekend in March, and were blown away by the beautiful room, the delicious food, and the incredible hospitality of John and Dena. We live in the city and it is nice to get upstate to relax. We have never visited Salisbury Mills, but thoroughly enjoyed our weekend shopping at the outlets and going to tastings at the Brotherhood winery and other local wineries. The Caldwell House, though, was honestly the highlight of our trip. For a couple of native Californians, it was exciting to stay in a house with so much history (ask Dena and John and they'll tell you all about the colonial history of the area and of the house itself). We stayed in the Carriage House room and it was a cream! Staying in a historical home, you might expect it to seem old or musty, but everything has been recently renovated, so you get all the charm, but with brand new (really nice) showers, a fireplace, and one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. (Add to that new TVs with cable, HBO, netflix and DVD player). They've kept the old beams and other touches from the old rooms as well, so you get the best of both worlds. There's a great local pub just a minute's walk (literally) from the house and lots to do locally as well. If you're looking for a romantic bed and breakfast with a lot to offer, I highly recommend the...
Read moreThe very definition of a home away from home. This place is something truly special.
It is not the facilities (which are classically designed, immaculately clean, and extremely spacious), nor is it the amenities (which are plentifully available, top-class, and surprisingly technological - iPad's and every television service you can think of in each room). It's not the classically chic decor, even though we arrived during the Christmas season to beautiful wreaths and lights hanging from each house, and christmas music setting the perfect ambiance at every turn. It's not the large open spaces and banquet hall, filled with good company and good cheer. It's not the beautiful scenery and open land of the surrounding area. It's not even the food (which is absolutely delicious and creative... a gourmet three-course breakfast anyone? Yes please).
Rather, the Finneran's have captured that elusive feeling of warmth, comfort, and family, which permeates the entire property. John and Dena provide service of the highest quality, always with a smile and that welcoming feeling rivaled only by your closest family members and best friends. Everything about the Caldwell House B&B makes guests feel overwhelmingly comfortable, and frankly, will make you question why you ever decided to leave in the first place.
Visit for the beautiful area and facilities, return time and time again for the charm. ...
