This park is a pleasant alternative to camping at Blue Mound State Park (which is just a couple of miles away). Brigham is located on a high ridge and offers some great views of the surrounding countryside. Most of the park is thickly wooded, primarily with mature oak, maple, and hickory. It has a variety of campsites, from large open sites located on the edge of prairie restoration, to intimate sites tucked away in thick woods. There is also a group camping area. Only three sites have electricity. The bathrooms are in good condition, but there are no shower facilities. Water is available at several sites scattered around the park. In addition to camp sites, there are also picnic areas with shelters and playground equipment. There is also a dumpster for garbage--something that Wisconsin state campgrounds have unfortunately eliminated. Firewood can be purchased from the camp hosts for $5 a bundle. Read morewe had to switch sites with another camper, no biggie. the host was very nice. we camped there to be close to mount horeb. it's close. the view there is stunning! fireflies in the prairie! my daughter and future son in law had a pre wedding get together and with us camping there my daughter's HS bestie was also there, they had a blast Saturday night reminiscing and getting tipsy,my heart was full. I figured oh my were going to get talked to about them getting tipsy and we didn't! the neighbor site understood it was reunion of sorts. what I'm getting at is we didn't feel like the employees of the campgrounds were judging us or constantly keeping tabs on us. if I had to say one negative thing about it I would say umm umm there's no dumping site, even that isn't a big deal since you can go to other parks...
Read moreBrigham County Park, in Dane County WI, west of Madison, and near Mt Horeb & Cave of the Mounds in Wisconsin's Driftless Area has always been my favorite county park in the USA since discovering it as a university student around 1970. It has a small campground, picnic area and even smaller playground. On a clear day, the views to the north into the Wisconsin River valley are stunning, and even better during autumn. Nearby areas are filled with contour-plowed and planted corn fields, dairy farms and other spectacular sights. It's a great basecamp for visiting Cave of the Mounds, Bluemound State Park, House on the Rock, Epic Intergalactic Headquarters, Taliesin and so much...
