What a fabulous place to stay! We absolutely loved Thomas Farm and our wonderful hosts Nancy and Rich and can recommend it without any hesitation for a stay be it for one night or for a longer period.
We stayed for two nights in August 2019 as part of a road trip we were doing in this part of America and Canada. We chose Thomas Farm as we had read excellent reviews on Trip adviser and because we wanted to stay in that area on route to Niagara Falls. We wished we had been able to stay longer!
The farm itself is set in beautiful grounds a few miles outside Ithaca and it looks stunning. It has real character on the outside with a lovely porch at the front and another at the back and a wooden rocking horse sculpture at the roadside. As we pulled up we also noticed a firepit in the large garden and a pond.
Nancy and Rich came running to greet us (literally) as they had seen our car as we passed them whilst they were out for a walk! The welcome we received made us instantly feel at home as did Nancy’s home made cookies and herbal iced tea. This was our first time staying in an American B and B so we were unsure of what to expect. WOW! We were overwhelmed with the friendliness, helpfulness and hospitality.
The accommodation was absolutely beautiful. We were travelling with our adult son and so chose to stay in Annie’s suite. There was so much space and the rooms were beautifully homely and tastefully furnished and much larger than we expected. We loved the history that went with the room and the fact that there were so many interesting artefacts to look at. There were even lavender eye pillows to help you relax and sleep!
In the morning coffee was served early and guests were welcome to sit on the porch and watch the beautiful birds and wildlife whilst breakfast was being prepared. This was just perfect with the rocking chairs as we imagine such houses to be in the UK.
Breakfast was superb. Fresh fruit and juice followed by delicious cooking. Each day we had something different and each day was totally delicious. French toast, blueberry scones, frittata, sausages to name but a few of the items we ate. We loved sitting around one big table getting to know other American guests. It was a real highlight of our holiday and Rich and Nancy popped in to check everyone was ok and conversation was flowing…which it always was! Finally the help we were given with finding restaurants, walks and things to do in the local area was brilliant. There is so much on offer that we did not have time to do it all.
We had a fantastic time at Thomas Farm and hope to return again. This place is an absolute gem!!! Thankyou so much Nancy and Rich...
Read more9 friends and I rented out the full property for my bachelorette party over the weekend. It was an absolute perfect stay. Myself and multiple members of the group have luxury hospitality backgrounds & are picky about where we stay. That being said, we were more than extremely impressed with the service, cleanliness, hospitality, and overall accommodations.
The service: Nancy and Rich are some of the best in the business. Before arriving we spoke over email a few times and they were more than willing to host a bachelorette party, which not all B&Bs would be open to. Upon arrival they welcomed us with open arms (and delicious homemade baked goods!). They were present when we needed them but not at all overbearing, which is a very fine line in the hospitality world. They made sure that we were comfortable and having fun, and went out of their way to provide us with enough seating in all rooms and outside areas, as well as towels (we had a rainy weekend), blankets, bonfire and s’more supplies, and water/coffee. Multiple members of my group commented that having Nancy and Rich with us made the weekend much more special, and that they felt like we had known Rich and Nancy forever!
The food: Nancy is an amazing chef. She welcomed us with delicious homemade brownies and molasses cookies and that was just the start. Breakfast each morning was fresh and made from local ingredients, presented beautifully. Our group was mostly coming in from NYC so hard to impress food-wise and we looked forward to breakfast each day. I am still thinking about the delicious quiche and will be trying to replicate it at home this week. It also does not go unnoticed or unappreciated that everything was prepared with my groups multiple allergies and dietary restrictions in mind. Not having to worry about that made our weekend even more relaxing.
The accommodations: The b&b was SPOTLESS. Myself and another member of the group ran housekeeping departments for many years and always have an eye out for dust, (yes, we’re annoying to host) and I can say with near certainty that the B&B was way cleaner than any chain hotel I have stayed in. The rooms and furniture were extremely comfortable, even for a large group. The grounds were beautiful and really set the mood for our relaxing weekend. We even got to see some new baby birds nesting on the property!
I look forward to coming back soon and often to Thomas Farm B&B. Thank you so much Nancy and Rich for making our weekend so special...
Read moreThomas Farm Review From the moment we arrived at Thomas Farm (Nancy and Rich came out to greet us) to the moment we left (they came out to wave goodbye!), we felt happy, comfortable, safe, and cared for. This B&B is tucked away on a back road, far from the New York City noises and hustle we are used to. There is a huge lawn on one side (with benches and a duck pond). Then a garden in back (flowers, a bird feeder) that leads into a very old wood forest. Finally, a low meadow across the road that touches a small lake (more birds and flowers!). The house is old—the wide floor boards mean it must go back into the early 1800s. Our party of three had two separate rooms and plenty of space. The beds were comfortable and we had extra towels and bottles of water, outside the door. We know there were other guests, but we didn’t really see much of them. We were served our breakfast in the back garden. I think others were on the side porch that faced the duck pond? We had three days of breakfast. Each day started with a lovely fruit cup that included an edible flower (from the garden). So pretty—and quite tasty! Nancy makes her own yoghurt and infuses it with various fruits. We put that and some granola she offered onto the fruit. Very yum. Lots of tea and milk and then a “main course” that included fresh vegetables from the garden and homemade sausages. One especially memorable breakfast centered around a homemade sourdough French toast that was topped with an apple crumble (apples from their property). We topped it with maple syrup made by one of Nancy and Rich’s neighbors. Local, organic, lovely to look at, and tasty to eat. Even though the property is off the main road, it is only about 15 minutes from Ithaca. We found a lot of interesting shops to browse in town and there are a lot of restaurants in the area. We had Italian, Mexican, and fusion Asian meals—all good and reasonably priced. There are also tons of wineries—be sure to book time at Dr Konstantin Frank and to visit our friends at Thirty Owl. Rich and Nancy ave led interesting lives and are great folks to chat with (if you don’t have your mouth full of French toast!). We felt sad as we left that we couldn’t stay longer and learn more about Thomas Farm and its lovely hosts. But we look forward...
