I stayed in the Giraffe House for 3 nights in August. It used to be a bed and breakfast but it's now only available to rent as a complete house. It's a bit pricey per night but with 6 bedrooms it's not that much per room and would be an awesome place for family reunions, weddings or other group events. The manager Shawn is really friendly. Happy to give tours around the place and he will make sure to take care of it if you need anything. I had asked for flashlights to explore at night with my kids and the next day the owner brought me some. The house itself is pretty luxurious with a full chef's kitchen. House is stocked with board games, outside games like cornhole and giant Jenga and they had a nicely stocked bar cart. Keep in mind this is truly an abandoned zoo. If you like that kind of thing (and that's why we stayed there) then it's pretty awesome. You pretty much have free reign access to explore what you want but it can be dangerous so if you've got adventurous kids I wouldn't let them go off on their own. The area around the house is very safe but it's a large property. My kids and I had a blast exploring both during the day and at night. The kitchen was also pretty well stocked with food, but it seemed a little haphazard. Like a collection of things from the previous guests and things they'd brought. Don't get me wrong, nothing was unsanitary, and we used a lot of what they provided (thanks for the smores kits) but I think they might be better off just coming up with a list of things they put there for each guest and cleaning out the rest. That's not a negative, just a recommendation. Ten out of five, would stay again. The house is obviously a lot more comfortable, but I had a friend stay in one of the tent sites a little while back and they loved it as well. Feel free to message me with any questions. Forgot to mention the goats and chickens on property. Goats were very friendly and the chickens provide...
Read moreWe had a two night stay from Monday to Wednesday on the last week of summer. Getting away from the city into the mountains was a treat for the whole family. We stayed in the rhino room and my 4-year-old loved every detail about the room! “Mommy look at the rhino hooks, rhino pictures, even the blankets and walls are grey like a rhino!” She wants to go back and explore what the other rooms look like. The bed was comfortable and shower was nice and warm. Our room was very clean with modern decor. Rest of the hotel was filled with antique signs and fixtures from the old game farm. Communal kitchen was very clean and convenient. They have designated drawers in the fridge for each room, which I thought was a great idea. They also have board games, bottled water, seltzer, and assorted tea in the communal area. One of the highlights of the stay was making fire in the yard and making s’mores. The hotel was a nice stack of firewood and kindling for guests to use at anytime. We also bought the s’mores kit they offer to make the treats.
Some negatives. Their wifi wasn’t working for majority of our stay. They use satellite internet and it was a bit rainy and cloudy during our stay, so maybe that affected the WiFi quality a lot. My cell provider is sprint and I didn’t have any reception in the hotel. This did cause some inconvenience since the main mode of communication to the hotel staff was supposed to be by texting. Lastly, the s’mores kit we used was probably made a long time ago and was sitting on the shelf for a while. The cracker was stale and the chocolate was so old, it had white hardened spots all over. I would bring my own ingredients if I were to go again. Overall it was a great stay and I would recommend it to people who are looking for something unique...
Read moreSurprised my husband with a quick weekend getaway and our very first TENTRR stay at Abandoned Zoo Mountain View location, and we absolutely loved it! Owners/Camp Keepers Cathy & Ben are really great! This location truly offers the best of both worlds - you can have as much of a full on camping trip as your heart desires OR if you want to experience the pros of camping but still have access to some amenities and a regular bathroom, that’s an option here as well! They have a centrally located Inn on the property (used to be the giraffe house when it was a zoo and has been fully restored to an Inn - it’s amazing!) with really neat game room and kitchen areas, access to a regular bathroom and even a hot tub! If you stay at one of the tentrr sites, it’s a little bit of a walk or quick ride up to the inn, but the fact that it’s even available to use was just great! Also, have to point out two things I was surprised by: 1-our stay was late October (so it was a bit cold at night) but the wood burning stove in the tent kept us super cozy and warm (although it was not as easy as expected to get it started -but once going, it was great)! 2-it started down pouring halfway through the night and it did not let up (part of why we didn’t get to see/do all we wanted to at the location) BUT we literally did not get a drop on us or our things and it was the best sleep ever (the bed was super comfy)! One more side note - there is just a ton of fun activities in this area, we stopped at a nearby brewery and a winery and a apple/pumpkin picking farm and there’s so many other things as well (there’s a shooting range and horseback riding and some other fun stuff on the same road!) Just wish we could’ve stayed longer to enjoy the site and trails more, but we’ll be...
