Cortland Motel — Hotel in Town of Cortlandville

This is the second time I am writing this review because somehow the first one was deleted after the owner called me, angrily, about the initial review I wrote. I wrote a review about how my husband checked into the hotel and the owner's child was running around in the very small lobby COMPLETELY naked. The son was around 5 yrs. old. Later, the owners went outside with the child, who was now only wearing a pull up when it was below 60 degrees and 9:30 PM. The child stood by the car for at least five minutes before an adult put him in the van. I felt that maybe the child has special needs, but felt strongly about how he needed better care and protection than what was being provided to him in this moment. I regret not calling CPS. While my husband waited to be checked in, he said another man was speaking to the owners about someone entering his room when he said he did not want service. The woman owner dismissed his concern and told him she only went in to empty the garbage. My husband got the impression she was trying to use the fact that she spoke another language as her first language as "barrier" to cover or dismiss the matter. There was no language barrier. The man left the lobby, visibly frustrated that she went in his room without his knowledge after he refused room service. We were placed in room 11, which is in a closet entrance with access to room 10 also. These were the only two rooms that did not have outside access like the rest of the hotel. Entering/exiting into this little closet area did not feel safe. The rooms are out dated and gross. They may smell of cleaning supplies, but there is no real cleaning nor appropriate repairs and upkeep happening. The bathroom was the grossest, with tiled floor that the grout is disappearing from, leaving deep grooves in between each tile with disgusting dirt and grime. Orange residue on the shower curtain... that's iron build up from not being washed or replaced. Dust and residue build up on the hair dryer screen on window screen that was inside the room. If I could it would have no stars the owners are disrespectful and kick people out and assume you have guests and take other people who are causing issues next to my room the whole time I was there the people argued till 2anm the walls are paper thin and they have no room phones the owners daughter told me to leave because I was on a video chat with a friend and next room over complained because I was supposedly loud andathey told them iihad someone in my room the owners daughter knocked on my door and walked through the room and seen no one was there and started to yell at me so when she said I. Nice little hotel off 11 and close to all. Was able to sleep during the day with no problem, as it is quiet. No one bothered me. Couple guest on here complained about the little boy. I think he just hates clothes and is maybe just don’t like feel of them. And he is safe, there is no need for concern with him. He was yelling the first day I was here and hid in my hallway. I opened the door, told him it’s ok and he was calm. I work with people with autism and sometimes they don’t like clothes or the feel of them. He was fine after this. Plus the hotel is warm and toasty and maybe he gets hot. Seems like a nice family and maybe some understanding with the little boy is needed with guests. He does seem to like new guests. The room was very large and had what I needed. I slept good and had no issues. It’s a little older but that doesn’t mean anything bad. The fridge and microwave was new and it was clean.
