Where ever you are in the world, please consider sending your child or teen to be a camper or counselor at the wonderful Hidden Valley 4H Camp in the Finger Lakes, New York, offered in cooperation with Cornell University.
My kids will go again a few weeks out of the summer -- alternating weeks between day camp and overnight camp. Many of the adult staff have returned for decades -- in fact, the director of +20 years met his wife as a teen counselor -- and the teen counselors are some of the NICEST KIDS who return each year.
Last year I happened to be dropping off the kids on the first day of camp and saw a woman bring two gorgeous baskets of petunias -- the camp director said, "Oh, there's Harriet who spent her summers here as a kid. She brings flowers every year."

Read moreVery neat historical place. It was founded in 1945. They utilized buildings from the former civilian conservation corps. The CCC operated from 1936 to 1941. They built much of the structure in the park including the structures that house the 4-H camp. They have had ongoing upgrades over the years, including a dining hall and swimming pool.
The camp offers programs for kids 8-17. There are summer and fall camping sessions.
My daughter attended this camp back in the early 2000's and enjoyed it very much.
The facility can be rented during non-camping times. My niece got married here in the spring of 2017 and it was a beautiful wedding.
