Was booked for 7/5-7-8/2025|Never got assigned a room prior to arrival. Evidently we were supposed to have. Arrived at 3:40 on check in day to a misrepresented establishment. No one to be found. (My husband was there for military business.) He had to get out of vehicle and find someone. Restaurant was closed when it was supposed to be open. Looked abandoned. Grass was ridiculously high. After he finally found someone-who did seem nice and completely unaware anyone was coming to check in/ We were asked (through google translate what room we were in) —obviously we should’ve been told that beforehand. We then got to speak on FaceTime with the owner’s stepdaughter? What?! No email, text, and when I called establishment a few days prior to arriving nothing was mentioned. Complete disorganization, terrible communication, run down property, dilapidated vehicle in parking lot; and the entire property across the street was full of dilapidated vehicles. Not a comfortable, cute cozy, safe environment as portrayed here. Was sent a “check in code and room assignment” 20 minutes after leaving. Unable to check in while we were there to—-40 minutes past check in time. We’ve stayed at properties with “contactless check in” before and never ever was like this. This was awful. They still have my money for one night, from “not cancelled within 72 hours”. This must be how they make any money. |DO NOT BOOK HERE. RUN; don’t walk AWAY. The military/government has taken this nightmare off of their list of places to stay for future travel workers. Unacceptable,...
Read moreBottom line: A fantastic place to stay on the Adirondacks - beautiful area, clean, unique cabin style rooms, and super friendly owner!!! I highly recommend!!
We stayed here over labor day weekend and I'm so happy we found this place!! We chatted with the owner a bit and he told us a bit of how he worked with a few friends to design and build the property and you can really see those personal touches!! Every room has a private porch with views of the mountains. The owner has been working on improving the property - there are some fruit trees and a path to the river in the back. The river has some benches if you want to admire the view. The room itself if smartly designed and ours had a HUGE bathtub which I certainly took advantage of! There was tons of hot water from a wood burning heater in the yard which not only supplied my bath, it also created the delicious smell of campfire all weekend. The motel is new (they only opened in June 2019), so I recommend staying here before it gets too popular!! It's a good distance from lots of amazing hiking trails and a short drive to Lake Placid. We didn't get a chance to eat at the attached restaurant, but everything smelled great and there was a back outdoor seating deck that would have been...
Read moreOn April 8, 2023, (last year) I made a reservation at the Halfway House Motel for the nights of April 7 & 8, 2024, the nights before and after the 2024 Solar Eclipse. The rate was $169 per night plus tax. On June 9, 2023, I received an email cancellation notice with no explanation. When I called, I was told they had decided to renovate the motel and would be closed April 7 & 8, 2024. ||However, the property is open for April 7 & 8, 2024, and they are taking reservations for the same room I had reserved for $395 per night, a 135% increase! ||This is a stunning lack of integrity. They had an obligation to honor my confirmed reservation, which they refused to do. Even if they initially planned to be closed and then changed their mind, they had an obligation to offer the rooms to the original customers at the original rate. ||I can provide Trip Advisor with copies of the two emails and a screen shot of the motel website with the rates for April 6 to 9, 2024,...
