Hidden Serenity B&B Getaway & Spa — Hotel in Town of Farmington

Chris and Sally are going to blow your socks off!

As a travel agent, I specialize in romantic getaways for several of my clients, and this Bed and Breakfast is amazing! I've been to many in and around Wisconsin - and this is the cream of the crop, in my opinion!

First off, Sally contacted me a few days before our stay via email, to make sure of our wants and needs and to confirm our stay selections. My husband and I arrived about 20 minutes early for our 1 pm check in, and sat on their porch swing until we were greeted by Sally who graciously guided us to the most comfortable outdoor rockers we've ever had the pleasure of sitting in while she finished attending some things before checking us in promptly at 1. The process of checking us in was easy and smooth. We had settled on the Woodland View with it's own private deck and we were not disappointed! We were reminded that we had 2 - 90 minutes spa sessions - 1 each for each night we were staying. I had also pre-booked a couples massage (also amazing!) and Sally made arrangements for it so easy. Sally told us about dinner options in the area for the evening, explained the key to our room, then led us up to our stunning room that would be ours for the next 2 nights. We were both wowed by the attention to detail to everything we might possibly need in our room and our porch! There was a mosquito lantern, towel for wiping off our chairs if there was rain, morning dew or bird poo, and a blanket for the evenings or early mornings if it was chilly! There were binoculars throughout the whole house for wildlife viewing. The room was impeccably clean and orderly - shower amenities and soap were available. A couple drinks were in the refrigerator as well as some light snacks on the table. There was a scrapbook about the room and bed and breakfast for us to peruse and learn about the property and amenities. After unloading our bags and changing, we headed off to explore the house and grounds. There is a trail with conversation starters along it. Mosquito repellant was also provided (I went back for it after being nibbled). Pickle ball, frisbee golf, Cornhole, basketball and more were available to keep you moving, active and enjoying each other's company. There were board games, cards and other items to keep you entertained. In the evening, more often than not, there is a fire for roasting marshmallows and conversation. The entry is huge and has a pool table! We spent hours in the evening playing pool and 9 ball. I mentioned the 90 minute spa experience that is included daily, but words don't do justice to the luxury that are awaiting! We looked forward to it every day! On our last full day before departing the following day, we did the spa first and then had our couples massage - what a super relaxing treat! The spa is NOT private to other guests that may be staying there, so just be aware that other couples may be enjoying the spa area at the same time you are! There is plenty of room if you're not feeling conversational to go to different areas of the spa. Last, but not least, breakfast! It IS a Bed and Breakfast! Every morning was a gourmet treat that was home made by the owners! There were choices of juice, coffee (I had decaf, my husband the blonde coffee), and herbal tea. Any time of day you could get water, and coffee or tea from Keurig in the dining area which overlooked the woods! TRY the homemade maple syrup with breakfast! YUM! The owners were so willing to talk and chat with us when they had time and we really appreciated connecting with them and hearing so many of their stories and experiences! Don't worry, they'll leave you alone, if you want to be left alone. ;) There is just so much going for this stunning Bed and Breakfast that I can't recommend it highly enough. This is a couples only property, so keep that in mind before reserving.

We had looked into going away for a weekend and found Hidden Serenity which ticked a lot of boxes but we weren't expecting the warmth and service provided during our stay. It started with Sally introducing herself as we checked in and instantly she made us feel like invited guests, not just random patrons renting a bed. Not only was she wonderful to talk to but also seemed genuinely interested in and cautious about the dietary restrictions we had noted (me being a type 1 diabetic and my girlfriend having a gluten intolerance). The breakfasts, by the way, were absolutely perfect: delicious entrees, sides and deserts that were just enough food that we didn't feel overly stuffed or wasting leftovers but also didn't bother with lunch later on. The coffee, which Sally also had us jot down what kind we would like from a list offered, was fantastic as well.

The building itself is beautiful and felt very homey; the wilderness view was unlike anything we have seen at any prior trips. We were also given quite a few options from Sally for dining when we wanted to make our way into the downtown area of West Bend and we loved that there was just enough to do in close proximity that we could make the most of our time away from home but not feel so rushed/jam packed that we couldn't lounge around in our room. We highly recommend also visiting the Shalom zoo just across the street as well as The Norbert (takes reservations) and the Riverside Brewery and Restaurant (both with gluten free options)

The room itself was also beautiful. We appreciated the theme/decoration including the fire place and ESPECIALLY the double shower with a heated bathroom floor. With regards to "staying in" there were plenty of DVDs just down the hall to choose from but the TVs also allowed us to log into streaming accounts as well. Just remember to log out before you leave. The room included a wine cooler, wine glasses, cups and a few non-alcoholic drinks so all we had to do was provide our own alcohol. There's plenty of stores including a Wal-Mart within a short drive. The B&B does have a gift shop of a few cool things including hand made coffee mugs that do come as part of an optional add-on wine/cheese/cracker/hot chocolate spread so we took advantage of that as well.

We also opted for the couple's massage which was one of the highlights of our weekend. The therapists were so friendly, engaged in our ridiculous banter and made the hour or so fly by in such an amazing way.

Long story short we loved our stay here and have already begun speaking to family about doing a group stay at some point in the future. Cannot wait to find a reason to come back, perhaps when it warms up and we can take better advantage of a hike around...

Pros: Chris was a very kind host and made us feel very welcomed! The house is gorgeous, the location is the best, it's beautiful and quiet. We loved the books available to read, the pool table was awesome (we played a few rounds), and super clean everywhere!

The cons: I took a bath and it leaked out everywhere! And I mean everywhere. My clothes got soaked, my shoes got wet, we had to use up all the towels to soak it up, it was a big mess. So my relaxation from a nice bath quickly turned into frustration. I understand things break, but apparently it's a common problem with this particular tub (as they texted us when we asked for more towels). So after cleaning up a huge mess on our own, and having drenched towels hanging everywhere, my husband wasn't able to use the tub for a bath because it'd just flood again. We did ask for more towels and they texted us that there's more in a cabinet in our room, but didn't offer to help or to come get the drenched towels.

Other things we didn't like was that there was no decaf in the room and we were told to get it ourselves from the dining area if we wanted some.

The bedroom was hot and because it's a house, there's no individual room thermostat. They had a fan in the room but it didn't help much.

Coffee and breakfast weren't until 9am, but we get up at 5am. We left early because we can't wait 4 hrs for breakfast to start. So we just drove back home for coffee & breakfast instead. (kinda defeats the breakfast part of a bnb for us). I understand some bnb's start breakfast at 9am, others at 6am, etc and it's all variable. This was probably a mistake on our part for not knowing what time it started. (We would've never stayed here had we known.) So just a heads up there.

While our room was beautiful, the bed was horrible for our backs and the pillows were flat. The pillow covers also didn't smell fresh. Smelled like they've been locked in a closet for some time. It was very off putting. Not really romantic when you're both asking "what's that smell?!" lol

The two chairs in our room (Kettle Moraine) were very comfortable, however. So that was a plus.

So that's why I gave our 1 night stay 2 stars. Some things we liked, some things we obviously didn't. I'm disappointed our stay wasn't as special as we had hoped. What was probably the most disappointing, was never being offered a discount for the huge inconvenience, along with no help for the situation. If I wanted to be frustrated and/or clean a bathroom floor, I could've just stayed at home and did all of that...
