The first thing we saw when we arrived at the Beacon Hermitage were the terraced gardens in the back, abundant with fruit trees, flowers, small fountains,, comfortable places to sit, and beautiful statues. Climbing upward in the garden gave us terrific views of the sunset. ||The second thing we noted were the incredible paintings covering the walls in the hallway and up the stairway. These are gorgeous pieces, and each time we went to and from our room we would try to find one we hadn’t seen yet (which was pretty easy). The paintings led to lively discussions and we appreciated the owner’s artistic taste. ||Then we got to know Rev. Jim better. He took us into the barn at the property to show us antiques he’s collected. What a terrific collection! Jim was also friendly and welcoming and made us feel right at home. He knew the towns inside out and gave terrific recommendations. ||It was supposed to rain all weekend but we were in luck- 2 sunny days before the rain hit. When it did come it came hard. The towns next to us flooded under 10” of rain, which is the norm for the entire summer rather than the few hours it actually stormed. Jim didn’t want us to go into town for dinner so he cooked us the most delicious pasta meal we’ve ever had. Jim is more than just accommodating- he is caring and generous and kind. He set up a beautiful tureen and we dined like royalty. ||Jim is a Reverend who officiates weddings as well. We read about how closely he gets to know the couples he meets; how the trajectory and story of their love are presented at the ceremony with great care and tenderness. One day, when Gail and I have a ceremony we would love to have him as our minister. ||We could not have had a better experience and we cannot figure out how to thank Jim properly for all his care, so we’ll leave this review in which we can tell all of you that this is by far the best place to stay in the Bear Mountain area and the location is perfect. The views around here are spectacular. The town is minutes away. The stay here is unmatched. We hope you have as terrific a...
Read moreReverend Jim is truly the best we could have asked for! Our wedding was in New Rochelle close to where I grew up, but I planned it from where I live now in Milwaukee. Rev Jim was super flexible with Zoom/Skype video chat meetings because of this, and I even had the opportunity to visit him for an in-person meeting at his home when I was in town at the Beacon Hermitage. I must say this is a beautiful, stunning, and artsy property if you get the chance to visit! We worked with Rev Jim for a couple of years leading up to the wedding where he provided us a questionnaire for my husband and I to fill out separately with some personal questions about our relationship so he could learn more about us as a couple. I highly recommend taking this seriously as he was able to truly personalize and incorporate our love into the ceremony this way! Rev Jim also provided a document listing the different types of ceremonies to select what suits us best. We aren’t the most religious, but wanted a little mention of god’s blessing to appease our family, and he nailed that. He was also very accommodating with having a couple of family members conduct a reading, as well as allow time for my step-sister (who is a musical theatre professional) to sing at the beginning of our ceremony. We also decided for our unity ceremony to do the handfasting which truly “tied the knot”! During our reception, we received so many compliments from our guests on his ceremony, and even had some friends ask if they can use him for their wedding! He was so positively impactful and is someone to remember forever as such a big part of our special day! Check out his Instagram (@revjimrooney) to get a glimpse of what he does! You won’t be disappointed!! Thank you for all the hard work and...
Read moreUPDATED: See all my reviews, I always give honest feedback since there are so many fake reviews these days.
Since the owners clearly can not seem to behave like adults and take normal feedback on the cleanliness of their house, I feel I need to explain more. I have never lived in any residence with roaches. Its childish to blame someone for "bringing them" when, with the state of that house probably hasn't been cleaned in weeks.
Secondly, I was in bed and asleep by 10PM with my husband, so now the owners are clearly just childish and petty for making this up. They clearly cant take even the smallest amount of criticism.
Also the "breakfast" included was grocery store bought pastries that literally had flies on them inside the house where they were layed out. we had to eat elsewhere because the "provided breakfast" was so disgusting.
Lastly, since this building is "pet friendly" there is dog hair everywhere, oh and dogs barking at all hours of the night... try getting a restful night there... impossible.
Do yourself a favor and book another accommodation. This review is from a French/American couple with taste (homeowners in NYC).
Message to the owners:
Since I post honest reviews always and everywhere I can, I will be sure to post about my stay here on Instagram as well. So be on...
