We were looking forward to a B and B type experience at this iconic Auburn spot. We understood their dining room had recently been closed and that they provided a continental breakfast that was included in the rate. We splurged and decided it would be a romantic night. When we checked in, the room was about 60 degrees and we noted there was no thermostat inside. Having stayed at other B and B places, we understood, and found the control in the hallway. We set the control to 70, went to dinner at the Apple Orchard place, and when we returned our room was chilly but not freezing, with the thermostat still set to 70. At some point in the night another person in the same hallway, at the other end, returned to their room and found it boiling hot. They turned the thermostat down so their room would be at a temperature to meet their needs, resulting in us waking in the middle of the night to mid 50 degree ice cold room. When we went down to breakfast nobody was available and we had to find the manager or owner in the kitchen. We explained about the temperature and he seemed to be surprised and as if it was beyond his control to do anything. We were left feeling dismissed and very disappointed that our needs were not important. After eating and packing, we tried to check out but once again, nobody was available. That's when we met the couple who had the room at the other end of the hall! We shared with them our freezing room story and they shared their boiling room experience. As we tried to check out, ringing the bell, waiting, ringing again, then going around the facility looking for anyone, we finally found someone in the kitchen to return the key, assuming the owner or manager was hiding. The thermostat problem was apparently not only well known, but had caused problems for the person who was in our room the night before! We cannot state strongly enough that this once beloved institution is broke. Do not stay here if you expect to be taken care of and have your stay be a...
Read moreThe building is charming. The grounds are beautiful. Some of the staff are really friendly, helpful and responsive. The location is nice enough, not far from the lake, but with no direct access or particular view. The Inn is sort of like a B&B but with a poor breakfast. The structure is old, and sound insulation is minimal. Our room was quite large, but the bathroom was extremely small, maybe 5x7 feet in all with a very small shower. The fixtures and furnishings in the room are old. The bed was comfortable but very creaky, okay for sleeping if you don't move around. Lots of windows with screens, and a good minisplit air conditioner. All of that makes for a reasonable stay, but not worth the prices charged. There doesn't appear to be nighttime staffing. Our second night there, other guests on our floor were drunk and noisy. At 10:15 I called management and the person who answered (one of the innkeepers?) said she would come over and speak to the guests. At 11:00 the noise continued and I had to go into the hall to explain the problem and ask them to be quieter. A "continental breakfast" was advertised. We discovered it was Motel 6 quality: self-serve, coffee in paper cups, thawed bagels with a toaster, cereals with shared milk in the refrigerator, a shared jar of jam in the fridge. Very disappointing. We had a dinner in the restaurant with its own share of shortcomings, but at full price, but that's another story. Anyway, we made our own fun and had an okay time: but we found the Inn offered poor value, and our experience did not match up to the many 5-star reviews here in Google. I appreciate that running a service business is not easy these days, and I wish the innkeepers well, but on the basis of our two nights there we wouldn't...
Read moreThe owners (The Lattimore’s) and staff at Springside Inn truly go above and beyond for their couples. My husband and I got married May 27, 2023 and have raved about our day ever since. We enjoyed every step of the planning process thanks to the tireless efforts of Christine, Springside’s event coordinator. The theme of our wedding weekend was “yes”- everyone was so accommodating and nice. We did our rehearsal dinner in The Oak and Vine and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Very unique space that was spacious for our guests but also intimate which is just what we wanted. We did our ceremony outback in The Grove and it was so picturesque and perfect-highly recommend for gorgeous earthy pictures. The reception space is also gorgeous, and Christine brought my wedding decor vision to life! The grounds and the inn itself is in immaculate shape. My husband and I, parents, and some members of our wedding party booked the 7 rooms the Inn has to offer. Each room has a unique style and each is gorgeous and antique. The bridal suite is a must for getting ready wedding morning. I had 7 bridesmaids, myself, my MIL, my mom, my grandma PLUS makeup and hairstylists all comfortably hanging out in the suite. Highly recommend this for brides.
However, truly the best part of our experience was working with The Lattimore’s, Christine, and the rest of the event staff. I did not have to lift a finger on my wedding day and I had no worries because I knew Christine was handling things for me. It was such a blessing to just enjoy and soak up every moment during wedding morning. I felt at ease and taken care of all weekend. My husband and I LOVE Springside Inn and hope to return for many wedding anniversaries in the future....
