A great little campsite but can get quite busy very quickly we thought that going in early May we would be one of the only groups there for Friday and Saturday night. But it looked like there were about 5 other groups. These campsites do not offer many things but it is a campsite with ~ 2 miles of all taken care of trails. Definitely would recommend there is even one canoe in campsite which works out very well. Be warned ticks can get wild throughout the summer. The cliffs are fun to for some light climbing but be warned the rocks are sandstone so the do break down very easily and quickly. I would not recommend this spot for for kids or groups with kids as you can see all the neighbor campers. Please remember your best LNT while yawing this campsite it is...
Read moreNice little hideaway. The walk from the campground to the parking lot / trailhead / restroom is very short, maybe 300 meters. The campground itself is in a very nice setting, with young forest, tall pines, and the cliff of course. There are maybe 6 actual sites with a picnic table and fire ring. The loop trail was nice, but it was flooded due to heavy rain. The mosquitoes in the campground weren't as bad as some other places nearby. You can hear planes, trains, and automobiles here, but they're all pretty quiet.
The only detriment to this campground was the trash left behind by other people. Plastic cutlery and piles of food scraps in the bushes. Come on, people! There is NO excuse not to pack...
Read moreSandrock Cliffs is a great out of the way public land campground. It's a lovely spot for playing in the non-motorized upper St. Croix River, day hiking or biking along the bluffs, city car camping, or picnicking.
It's rustic, and the highway is only a mile away so there can be a little noise pollution. The campground can be dangerous at night due to the unfenced sandstone cliffs. There's no potable water and the bathrooms are pit toilets. Sometimes the local teen- and twenty-somethings arrive for a night of partying. However none of these things should be an excuse to skip Sandrocks, because it truly is a beautiful little hide away a mere hour north of the...
