Our names are Kris and Lisa Lunderman and we LOVE it here!!!! Ignore ALL negative reviews and please read ours. We believe you will be happy camping here if you keep in mind what your are booking. This isn’t glamping, modern nor high end. It’s not rundown, it’s rustic….it’s camping in the woods, just as you would expect at the base of the Adirondack’s. If you are looking for luxury camping this is not for you. If you like being surrounded by nature, the smell of pine trees, sitting by a campfire, a nature walk around the lake, cooling off in a pool….you will love it here.
We are here now and staying for a full month in site #60. We have a 2021 38 foot fifth wheel that requires 50 amps. Although there is no sewer hook-up they offer daily pump service (or as often as you want it) at no additional cost. We have been getting pumped out every other day and do not have to be present when they do it. Not only that but we’ve been here when they did pump our tanks but never even heard them. We have stayed in other similar campgrounds that offer pumping at a charge and those fees can add up….here, it is completely free.
The roads are a little bumpy but easy to maneuver. The ground is covered in pine needles…because, well…trees. And beautiful trees are everywhere! We often see children riding bikes or playing in the brand new playground just built this year. Our 4 year granddaughter loved it. She especially liked that there were four different slides and varied “rock” walls with ropes for climbing. She also loved the children’s water splash pad area. It was clean and ankle deep with chairs all around for adults to keep good watch. Right next to the children’s water area there is a family pool only 4 feet deep but wide and large enough for many campers to enjoy. Lots of chairs and loungers and again, very clean. It’s all fenced in and locked at night. They offer a small putt putt course with free club and ball rentals. You just pick them up inside the little general store where you check in. Oh yea….they offer free coffee and sometimes have fresh, large homemade chocolate chip cookies for purchase…..they are yummy and very reasonably priced.
The nights are quiet with people outside enjoying campfires or cooking dinner. No noise or loud campers…just nature.
Our site faces the little lake and we are greeted daily by a tiny family of Canadian geese. We feed them crackers and they are friendly and sweet. We have often seen people out in the lake in a canoe or on the sandy beach fishing. Weekends tend to Be full but many people leave on Sunday and so weekdays have open spots.
Last week we rented a cabin for our grown children who came to visit and they had a wonderful time. They stayed in cabin #1. We had to supply our own bedding and towels but everything else was there. The front had a swing inside the screened porch and the kitchen full of dishes, cups and utensils. The microwave, coffee pot and stove worked well. The TV picked up local channels or you could pay a minimal fee for internet on the Roku supplied. There was one queen bed in the back and a queen floor pad upstairs in the loft…perfect for kids! The futon could be used for sleeping if needed and was large and made of heavy oak. The cabin had a little table with four chairs. We played cards every night! Please keep in mind, these are homey but rustic. You should not expect hotel quality but rather camping in a cabin.
We highly recommend this beautiful campground, the friendly staff, the taste of nature and its 8 mile proximity to Saratoga! Our grown children are all professionals who like to call themselves “bougie” (LOL). None of them expected to like it here, camp in the woods and be so surrounded by nature. We were surprised when they all asked if we could meet up here again next year. We are already...
Read moreThis has to be the most chaotic and least relaxing RV park we’ve ever encountered. First, the booking policy. The website has no information on it at all about rules or policies and when you reserve, it seems as if you’re booking a particular site. They do email you a confirmation with the disclaimer, “sites are first come, first served.” I called to inquire after reading this and they confirmed that is what they do. To avoid being stuck next to bathrooms, etc., we woke up really early to get there to check in. We arrived on a Friday a little after noon. At check-in, I thought they would show me on a map which sites were free and we would pick one. But no, they had no idea which sites were free — we had to drive around and look for sites that were empty. Crazy! We have a motor home and often come and go when we’re staying at an RV park to sightsee, eat locally, etc., but they expected you to choose a site and never move or someone else could take your spot. When we did finally choose our site, it was written in hand in a disorganized list and seemed like there was really not an accurate record of who had what site. We were not given ANY information, rules, etc. beyond a park map copied one too many times and was barely readable. The site itself was dirty with garbage and cigarette butts lying around. Wires and piping ran above ground through our site (and we were told we got one of the best sites). We came to the area to sightsee so we did leave for a few hours and left some of our chairs behind but were worried the entire time we were away that someone else would take our site. Luckily, no one did. Perhaps even worse, the culture of the place is completely chaotic. It seemed like everyone was screaming all the time and no one had any consideration. Kids running & biking all through our site. People letting their dogs pee and poop on our site. No speed limits observed, kids biking, people walking, trucks and tons of golf carts all jockeying for space on their roads. And then at night, it was LOUD. I don’t mean people sitting around a fire talking. We’re not early birds ourselves and not super-sensitive to noise late in the evening. But, people were blasting music so loud we seriously thought they were holding a concert in the park. Many groups drinking, screaming and cackling so loudly well after midnight, it sounded like some sort of human sacrifice was going down. Fireworks went off throughout the night. And it never completely quieted down all night. Golf carts were even driving around at 4am. And then the kids were out without any parental supervision at 7am running and yelling. We got almost no sleep, had been tired already getting up early to choose a site, and were stressed out...from our vacation! So we high tailed it out of there and forfeited our $. It wound up being a good choice and we found a very peaceful RV park closer to Albany. BTW, this camp has a Better Business Bureau rating of F and the owners were sued in a class action lawsuit over fraudulent practices in 2018 (you can Google...
Read moreShort story: The place smells of sewage constantly.
My entire extended family camps together every August. It ends up being about 30 of us combined between campers and cabins. This year, after 30 years of going to Alpine Lake Campground. we decided to try a new place that was more kid friendly. We chose Saratoga escape for the splash pad and mini golf.
We found Saratoga Escape and they were super accommodative-able to book us 5 camper sites and 6 cabins all right next to each other. The even threw even a free communal camper site so we had big site to spread out and sit around the fire at night. My family of four was in a cabin. The cabin was NOT clean and there was an literal envelop on the kitchen table with a handwritten note saying "cleaning tips". There was hair in the shower, the mattresses were gross and I took a flashlight to check for bedbugs. I tried to turn the kitchen sink on and handle fell right off in my hand. I notified them right away and it was fixed immediately. Someone's used bath towel was left behind (you bring you own linens) and the place stunk so bad of mildew. Quickly learned that was coming from the two window AC units in the cabin that were filled with mold. In the loft area, one of the light bulbs was missing from a light fixture and the socket was stuffed with a paper towel. Seems light a fire hazard to me. The wooden rocking chairs on the deck were cracked and were braced with a piece of wood.
Day 2, there was a 1 foot long turd in the yard next to the septic clean out. The top popped off and human waste was all over the surrounding area in the yard (my 4 and 5 year old pointed it out to us). They do not have septic hook ups but do have a honey dipper that will come by every day. I watched this guy clean out everyone's site every day without gloves. He then cleaned out ours, but left about 6 inches of the footlong turd in our yard along with all the used toilet paper.
The pool areas is awesome! The splash pad was a big hit with the kids. Unfortunately, the bottom was painted blue with something that comes off of your skin and every one had blue feet for the entire trip. The honey dipper empties his tractor full of waste into the main dump which is conveniently located right next to the pool. Insert constant sewage aroma in the air. The only time I didn't smell sewage was in the evening when the sun went down.
We had 13 kids under 8 years old with us. Get them together and they'll have a blast anywhere. We made the most of it. Unfortunately, the mold made me sick with a cough and sinusitis for another week after we got home. The employees there were very kind but the place is just run down. It needs a complete overhaul
We have booked at Adventure Bound Camping for next year. Here's to hoping for a...
