A great time was had once again... We arranged a get away weekend with our extended family on one of their "special" package weekends, this was a BBQ weekend. The amount of food that was provided had some of us waddling home more that a few pounds heavier. And the staff was great! The place is a bit rustic, but that's the charm, and we love it.

Nestled in the heart of the Catskills, this family resort has hosted families for over 100 years. Offering daily activities for children of all ages, three delicious meals a day, an enormous swimming pool, and close proximity to water parks and horse back riding, Baumann's Brookside is a must visit not just this summer, but every summer.

Our first time staying and we are officially hooked! Our new yearly tradition! Staff is amazing, the food is incredible, and the activities are endless! My kiddos never stopped from wake up until they passed out. I stayed with 3 kids under 5 and not once did I feel stressed. Baumann's is the ultimate family vacation!

We went one year and the paddle boats were not out because of weeds in small pond. Yoga was no longer. Nearby events like go carts closed and there was nothing replacing them. Crafts and events during rain??? Gone. My kids found a rat in the game room two summers ago, and I bring bleach wipes to wipe game room machines down first day we come each time --it's filthy every time. No exaggeration. The pool table was also filthy and stained. They had a kid running the games most years and they acted like typical bored teen. Yet we put up with it (should you need to on vacation?) to see the same people each year. Some who have also stopped coming. It feels very different than it was even 5, 10 years ago. Last summer there were a few very cold days and no one could use the pool because it was freezing. I called to ask what the temperature was this year and if would be heated. I was told "how would I know the pool temp.? When it gets below. certain temp the heater kicks on!" When I explained no one was in last year because it wasn't working right she answered, "No that's wrong!" My husband literally called me and showed me pics both days of no one in pool. Then she accused us of "complaining a lot" because I had asked about paddleboats and other amenities in the past. Sorry. I am not THAT person, but a customer is allowed to politely ask questions. It is not the kind of place with a ton to do--you go to see the people you're hanging out with, so if you love to boat and the lake is closed, yes, that's a big deal to some people. I would encourage you to go. See how the family treats you, especially Rosemary. Maybe it will be enough for you. Unless like most first timers who AREN'T going for a family reunion or with a large group (notice the reviews), you will be underwhelmed, maybe even frustrated. And there are ZERO attempts to include newbies or small groups like PLM and some places do- mingling game play participants etc. --we always invited them into our circle. If you have gone to Pine Lake Manor, right near by, that's more like Baumann's should/used to be. Or a place like Woodloch--more money? Yes! but they try really hard to make a nice time for you and don't berate you for asking about missing/changing amenities. Be sure NOT to ask for more than the minimum. You definitely get what you pay for with Baumann's. Also not surprised at their response to the other 1 star...

If this is the same place as I remember I had done to this hotel when I was like 12 or 13 back in early 2000’s. I remember this place having a different name and they’re were like shamrock ☘ logos all around fhe place. It was a nice area for the whole family to go to for a little bit of countryside relaxation. Although like most things in life it was far from perfect, we ( my family ) should have known something was off about the joint because when we all checked in with at the main office area they (the employees) handed us bug swatters and fly paper. I remember the staff being extremely helpful, polite, and friendly especially to me and my little brother so I don’t want to take anything away from them in that perspective. Although the problem wasn’t the staff, the food, or even the other guests ( which they’re where far and few between ). No the issue was the FLY’S ! And they’re shere so many of them like I never seen anything like it in my life before or ever again since. The fly’s were so thick it was like a sci fi movie or horror movie. They ( the fly’s ) where everywhere and it was like they were impervious to any sort of repellent or bug spray. It got so bad my grandmother even set a plate or two of food out on one side of an empty picnic bench so they flys could be distracted eating that food and hopefully they would leave us to eat without swatting our hands every thirty seconds to fend off the unwanted guests. I remember finding out later that the soup company Campbell’s had a slaughterhouse a short distance away from the resort and that was the reason for the infestation. The most horrific site wasn’t the living flys swarming around the outside but instead inside one of the cabin's I’ll never forget laying in the bed looking up at the ceiling light and the entire bottom was filled with dead bugs like so full the light resembled more of a pepper shaker that’s how many corpses were in there. Hopefully they’ve found a solution for that problem because I couldn’t imagine anyone putting up with all of that for more than one night I don’t care how cheap the rates and even if they let you drink and eat for free it was inconceivably diabolical. Anyway I’m just shocked that nobody has mentioned any of this in the...
