Our small 2-adult 1-dog family just enjoyed a lovely impromptu overnight stay on Grant Island in Stabbin’ Cabin 1 Bungalow and we had such a nice time. The experience itself is a rustic whimsical adventure that for us was a nostalgic and perfect change of pace. The owner, JP, is incredibly helpful and warm and seemingly available at a moments notice with any issue great or small. We only needed to contact him once and he replied within 3 minutes and we knew he was always close by in the need of any assistance. Our dog was a welcomed presence from the first moment and so were we. The accommodations were thoughtfully done and with incredible attention to detail making sure anything and everything you would commonly need was within reach. Easy QR codes were available to connect to the WiFi and to direct us to dining and delivery options. This place is perfect for any family seeking to experience an old-school Adirondacks getaway with kind and warm vibes and the ability to bring your dog(s) and enjoy connecting more to nature and simpler times. If you’re not an outdoorsy type person, this experience may prove too woodsy and rustic for you, so that would be my only advice for that sort of person. Each accommodation on Grant island is a bespoke and whimsical setting. The decorating and variety of activities and items at hand shows such a level of attention which stood out to us. After sun set, the island takes on a magical and beautiful appearance. The pathway lights are found all over and illuminate the wooded spaces in truly a stunning way. We enjoyed traipsing around the grounds taking photos of the stairs, woods and walkways because with the amber glow of the lights it takes on a whole new dimension. Truly beautiful to take in while you’re enjoying time with one another. When we went I think all the individual accommodations were booked, but most often we felt like we had the island to ourselves. It felt like we never had to interact with other families/guests unless we wanted to. We are so looking forward to booking our next booking when we can go again on vacation Angel and perhaps bringing along some more family

What an incredible place to get away! For transparency, we originally booked Stabbin Cabin #1 but upgraded to #2. We stayed at the end of the season (late October) and absolutely loved the quiet, secluded feeling that timing provided! The island and area as a whole are so beautiful, we said on multiple occasions it felt like living in a painting! Still waters, coated with fog at night with complete silence aside from the occasional loon call… it was a truly serene setting! The cabin itself (#2) had every amenity we could imagine and was incredibly comfortable! The heater provided plenty of warmth and there was a heated blanket for extra comfort while watching movies on the projector! The bathroom and shower were a short, well-lit walk away and were clean and comfortable! We look forward to staying again soon! The jetskis, ATVS, and other warmer weather activities seem like they would add even more excitement to an already phenomenal stay! John Paul was a wonderful host- friendly, helpful, and super responsive! He outlined where to meet for the ride over clearly and made sure we were settled in okay. He was available immediately anytime we had a question but we otherwise felt as if we were the only ones on the island our entire stay! Highly, highly recommend a visit to Grant Island!! The value for the experience is nothing short of outstanding.

Grant Island is a wonderful place to stay on quiet, peaceful island where we also brought our dog. We had a wonderful time on the ATV vehicles and jetskis. My daughter's who never had the opportunity before were able to drive and ride the jetski. They love it and had a blast! My husband and I also enjoyed the jetski for our first time. This year my daughter will try water-skiing for the very first time, what an incredible amazing opportunity! I am so thankful for these opportunities and experiences for my daughters! Also, enjoy kayaking or canoeing, whatever, bring your own, or borrow from the island. Addressing previous review from previous guest, yes the bathroom is small and there is a septic, however, the requests are not outrageous and with a family of five, and our second time here we have not had any issues. Also, yes the pontoon boat can be stubborn, but if you text or call John he will help you, or fix the issue. My suggestion there, is have someone who is experienced with boats be your designated driver. As for cleaning the house, this is also not anything out of the ordinary that any bed n bath would request. Just don't leave a mess and destroy things. Yes, John also has his cabin close by, but this is not bothersome or anything near as the previous poster mentioned.

As you can see from the owner's response below, zero accountability for any shortcomings. Our stay at Grant Island was both stressful and disappointing, and my guests and I found it impossible to relax and have a good time. The boat we were promised (which is what made me choose Grant Island) was unsafe, dilapidated, and essentially unusable because it broke down so many times. As a result, we were unable to go fishing and enjoy the lake as planned- and at no point did John Paul apologize or take ownership of the issue. This ended up being a major theme during our stay, because the shower, hot water, septic system, ATVs & side-by-side we reserved or rented, and general state of the cabin, were not up to par. On top of that, the list of house rules are extensive, burdensome, and in some cases unfair to expect for someone who is paying a premium to have a relaxing vacation experience. I think its fair to ask guests to tidy up a rental upon checkout- but requiring them to scrub the bathroom, kitchen, and sweep the floors (under threat of a fine) is onerous and was a major distraction during our stay. Furthermore, we had a minimal sense of privacy during our time on the island as the owner was staying in a house a mere 50 feet away and we felt unwelcome to explore the island beyond our rental cabin and boat dock. John Paul also called us while we were (attempting) to boat around the lake to tell us that we were in a restricted zone. We were not (per the map he provided us) and from that point forward it became evident that we were being watched, which further contributed to the sense that we did not have ample privacy. The main cabin we rented accommodates 8-10 guests, yet there is only parking for 2 vehicles. I had to make arrangements with a local business to find additional parking, and John Paul at one point even suggested that I was being dishonest about the number of vehicles I had said we were bringing- not a great start to my stay. Personally, I opt to not leave a review if I've had a bad experience, as I'm very understanding and easygoing. But in this instance I felt obligated to provide some tough and honest criticism which I hope serves to set expectations for future renters and allow Grant Island Rentals to improve. I felt like I was hustled based on what I paid vs what I received in return, and instead of being treated like a paying customer we were made to feel as if we were being granted some great favor by being permitted to stay at Grant Island.

P.S., the dogs were nice and there...

After spending a weekend getaway on a secluded island, our experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Arriving by boat added an adventurous touch to our journey, setting the tone for a truly unique escape.

The cabin we stayed in, Stabin Cabin #2, was impeccably furnished, providing comfort and a cozy atmosphere. The island itself exuded tranquility, offering the perfect sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Being by the water was incredibly soothing, allowing us to unwind completely for the weekend.

Despite it not yet being peak summer, we were blessed with beautiful weather throughout our stay. JP’s Island is one of the rare spots on the lake that enjoys sunshine all afternoon and until the sunset, adding to the charm of our experience.

One of the highlights was the campfires we enjoyed both evenings. JP provided everything we needed (except the camp wood we found on our way), including grills, making it easy for us to cook our meals over an open fire. Lounging in hammocks and exploring the surroundings by canoe added a sense of adventure and relaxation to our days.

JP was exceptionally accommodating, attending to all our needs promptly and ensuring we had everything necessary for a memorable stay. We particularly enjoyed connecting with Jane, JP's mother, who shared captivating stories about the island's history.

Overall, our weekend on JP Island was unforgettable, blending adventure, relaxation, and genuine hospitality. It's a place we'll cherish in our memories and eagerly anticipate returning to...
