We stayed at VMC in August of this year and stayed for twelve nights in a 28 ft travel trailer. The campground is well kept and the bathroom/shower house is newly built within the last five or six years are very clean and up to date. There is a minimal cost for the showers (.25 for 4 minutes), but they are hot with good water pressure and volume. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. I ordered through Amazon and made arrangements with the host to have it delivered to the campground mail box and they were more than happy to accommodate. There is direct access to the LaCrosse River bike trail which connects to the Elroy/Sparta trail to the east and it directly connects with the Great River trail to the northwest. There is also direct access by bike trail to the hwy business district. There was no issue with the quiet time and the sites are large and shaded. The sites don’t have any “pads” but the ground is level although sandy with grass. The only reason for not rating it five stars is that there are no full hookups, but the dump station is convenient and readily accessible. All sites have 30/50 amp service and individual water hookups. Rates were reasonable at 27.25 per night. If you are looking for a quiet, no frills campground, this is the place. If you are looking for all the frills, go up the road and pay more than twice as much per night and put up with the noise and crowds. I’ve stayed at both and I’ll take the quiet, no frills place the next time we visit the...
Read moreDisappointed After Years of Great Experiences I’ve been camping at this campground for many years and have always had a great experience—until this year. Unfortunately, this trip was frustrating and disappointing from the start. After checking into our site and setting up our camper (the same way we always have), we were abruptly told we had to move it because it wasn’t parked “correctly.” This was confusing since we’ve never had this issue before. Our group had reserved three sites, and we brought an extra car, as we’ve done in the past. This time, however, we were told we couldn’t use the visitor parking and had to move the car completely out of the campground. No clear reason was given, and it felt unnecessarily strict. To top it off, we were told the cars on our site were parked incorrectly (again, no issue in previous years), finally, someone yelled at us over a kids' tent that didn’t have a sticker—something we’ve never been told was required before nor were we given one at check in when we said we were setting up a kids tent. I understand rules can change, but the way everything was handled felt excessive and unwelcoming. It was disappointing to feel treated like we were doing everything wrong, despite years of being respectful, rule-abiding campers here. I hope management reconsiders how they communicate with guests and handles site issues more reasonably in the future. Sadly, this may be our last year...
Read moreEasy access just a short distance off I-90. The lady who checked us in was delightful. The site was conveniently located and well maintained. The size of the sites is generous. Access is easy. There wasn't much gravel on the site, but even after heavy rain the ground seemed stable. I used my jack pads. The La Crosse river flows through the campground and provides fishing, a small beach, and nice views. The neighbors were warm and friendly as seems to be a rule throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. The bathrooms and showers are conveniently located and meticulously maintained. The grounds in this park are exceptionally well groomed. The park is quite large. A walk around one loop within it is a mile, and it is a very tranquil and scenic mile. There is just one considerable negative. Internet access via WiFi is pretty much worthless. In fairness, the lady who checked us in told us that the WiFi was available only near the office and lacking even then. We utilized our mobile hotspots from AT&T and Verizon to obtain Internet access. Note that there are multiple campgrounds with this same name. The one reviewed herein is the one...
