Recently went on a camping trip with several friends for five days. The small number of campsites was the most appealing factor because we wanted to be in a quiet area and enjoy the surroundings. It was very quiet and hardly any people during the week. The campground was very small and most campsites backup into a road (which can be very loud during the day from the number of trucks driving by). On the website, the map said that there was a river on the campground. It was dried up and looked like it had been damned for a while. The bathrooms were essentially outhouses and were pretty dirty. No sinks in the bathrooms either to wash our hands. There was no cleaning station for our cooking supplies and the only running water were several faucets throughout the camp which explicitly said that they were not for washing. Lastly, the only place to dump our trash was at North-South Lake which was about 10-15 minutes down the road by car. The campground really wasn't accommodating like other NYS campgrounds in the area that we had been to in past years. Would recommend for hikers staying for the night but definitely not for a group staying for a...
Read moreOk. We knew it was a primitive campground Not our first time. But when I say nasty, it's an understatement. We rated it 2 stars because it is a beautiful place. Also, when I read about a state park having a playground I thought the kids would be excited. No... no. No.no. I wouldn't let my children anywhere near that playground even if they wanted to. (Which they didnt) and what looked like a seesaw was a lopsided merry-go-round. The campsite is small.. our truck filled most of the campsite leaving very little room for our large tent. Also.. the entire campground is right next to the main road, which can be easily seen even in the summertime and is noisy. Not sure what it's like there at night though, because we left shortly after using the outhouse. We've used an outhouse many times but this was unbearable. If you book a reservation online make sure to look at the complete map, as the one where you choose your campsite does not show many of the unattractive aspects of the campground. I added a few pics of the place. Should have got one of the toilet but it just...
Read moreI went to Devils several times.. primarily because it’s located close to Devils Path.. and it was quite place to enjoy the nature and great hikes on Devils Path.My last trip was from July 13 to July 15.. Horrible! Group of people that occupied site 14 was yelling and playing music all night.. can’t really sleep.. Next day have to move to site 21 .. I hoped to have some quiet time.. no way!!! You can hear them across the road.. Have to ask Ranger to talk to them.. We were hoping night is gonna be quite!!! Even don’t dream about it.. Next group came about 11 pm.. they were setting up tents and enjoining their talks until 2am.. So 30 feet away people in a tent can enjoy it too((( I understand stay in a camp is a cheapest way to spent time but isn’t it about a nature anymore? (No comments on human beings behavior, we leave in New York!) My complain is about Camp management why they can’t implement rules they established themselves!! So you can’t get fooled trowing money and didn’t get what...
