My family and I have been staying at Sisko's for 40 years both in the cabins and as seasonals in the campground. ||OF IMPORTANCE TO NOTE: Sisko's is NOT a fast paced, high tech resort full of amenities. If you require a swimming pool, a wi-fi connection at every site, or a large, sprawling pad to park your 40" 5th wheel and toys on, you WILL be disappointed. On the other hand, if you're looking for a no-frills, friendly, affordable place to stay, then Sisko's is the place for you. The resort beckons guests to disconnect, slow down, and enjoy simple pleasures with family and friends. The lodge and 2 larger rental homes do have wi-fi, but the cabins and campsites are tech free. The cabins are older, yet clean and comfortable. The campground is wooded and intimate which allows for great shade on hot summer days and also provides you with an invitation to get to know your neighbors. The campground has a basic shower house with bathrooms, 25 cent showers (that quarter goes a long way in those showers), and a small coin laundromat. The camp host is amazing and is always willing to go above and beyond to make sure your stay is enjoyable. The resort grounds are well kept and include a great swim beach and large grassy areas for yard games such as bocce ball, bags/cornhole, and croquet. There's also a volleyball net, tetherball and a small playground provided for the kids. The lodge is a great place to talk fishing or to play pool and darts on a rainy afternoon. You can also grab a pizza and cold beer there after an evening of fishing. ||During our stays, we enjoy playing cards/games, swimming in the lake, going fishing/boating, listening to the loons, watching the thunderstorms roll across the lake, having campfires/cookouts, taking hikes, day tripping to Copper Falls State Park and the Apostle Islands, and shopping in downtown Hayward. There is so much to enjoy in the area. ||Sisko's is truly a northwoods gem and I would definitely recommend the resort to anyone who enjoys a more laid back, old school type...
Read moreCheck in with Lou was easy and she was very friendly. We stayed at the Bear Paw vacation home, and we absolutely loved it. It is located in a private wooded area next to the resort. There was a little confusion about the use of the golf cart, but Erin resolved that quickly and we signed a waiver. I suggest making sure you bring all items you might need while on the trip, because the closest store is a dollar general 15 to 20 minuets away. The house did have tvs and wifi! Thank goodness for the wifi because Sprint had zero reception and I was able to use wifi calling to make calls. A suggestion for the resort would be to list all items that are made available for the guests in the house. An example would be the salt/pepper, trash bags, dish soap, stuff like that. It would be most helpful to know these things before arrival. Also, the gas station that is about 2 miles is extremely expensive. A package of bacon was $8.99 and a gallon of gas was $3.58 when in near by Hayward it was $2.60. Overall the house sleeps up to 12 people, but do not count the basement "room" unless you can handle being completely freaked out. The beds are all different in comfort. We did some exploring around in the woods and found some interesting things. We only went to the Lodge (bar) once. Lou was very sweet and made us feel at home. The only really disappointment was the bog that came in and is blocking the cove area. The water level was also dropped around that time causing the bog to settle in and it doesn't seem like its going anywhere any time soon. This also caused a build up of algae at the beach and most boats (other than fishing boats) cannot get in or out. We all definitely had post vacation blues when we got back...
Read moreStayed in a rustic cabin, I was happy with a roof over my head, running water, and a toilet. Last 2 yrs, we’ve tent camp with the kids on the island w/none of that luxury. But this yr, I told the husband, no more island camping. The cabins are rustic and outdated but it’s not the end of the world. Even w/first impressions of walking through the cabin feeling sand on my feet and the 9 yr old pointing to a large black ant carrying something 10x it’s body size. I thought, I have running water and a toilet. ||||First night, went to bed early due to busy morning at work and busy settling kids in. During the day, prepping food, noted few ants on counter. Not a problem, just a few. We all stayed up late, had a great bon fire, kids made friends already running around. Went into bedroom and flipped the lights on... major ant infestation. These are not your tiny regular ants but your “someone fed them steroids” ants all over the bedroom floor. I checked the bed, looked cleaned enough. I checked under the bed to see if the kids had spilled something to be feeding them and was shocked at the 1/4 layer of dust. But I could see ants scrambling everywhere. I slept on the lazy chair the rest of our stay because I did not want to ruin our vacation. Ants were noted mostly in our bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. ||||We had another 2 nights stay. Needless to say, I did not sleep well. Talked to the camp host and was told owners out of town. We paid a decent amount of money $600 and I don’t mind rustic but that was not acceptable. I wanted a discount for a cabin that was ant infested with complementary 1/4 inch dust under all the...
