My family and I have stayed at the Hedges over 15 times but this last visit we were so disgusted with Mary Ann who works at the check in I feel compelled to share this experience. She was so rude and condescending to us we feel it ruined our overall experience - here is what happened:

After neglecting to present an accurate bill to us on our departure she emails us 3 months later saying in the subject: The Hedges - Second Request From Accounting - as if she was a bill collector and WE were errant on paying our bill.

First of all there WAS NO FIRST notice we asked her to show us that we were notified and she did not respond as the subject implies - SECONDLY we were PRESENTED AND INACCURATE BILL AT CHECK OUT - which we paid in full as normally required. She then said "Well YOU SHOULD KNOW a week at the Hedges would cost more" She really said that to us - I kid you not so somehow the billing error was our responsibility - HOW RUDE.. instead of saying we apologize for presenting you an inaccurate bill at check out she says well you should have known it was incorrect. Really??

We had no idea our bill was not calculated correctly and would have been happy to pay in full the correct amount as we did all 14 other times we stayed. How she handled this error on her part was insulting and and her unwelcoming attitude at the front desk is arrogant. I LOVE the Hedges my family has visited over the years but Mary Ann does NOT represent the values we want to experience on vacation - sadly we will not visit again as long as she works there. BEWARE - billing errors are blamed on campers -...

Our stay was flexing as I made reservations in July for late August. The registration staff was very accommodating, working with me to adjust our stay with my flexing work schedule. When we arrived, we were welcomed, and our room was ready.

While the surroundings were very ADK Lodge, and welcoming, the grounds are neat, and attractive. Our room in the Stone Lodge was very nice, and felt like a friends home. Our private shower was neat with modern devices. When we registered, we needed to pick a seating time for dinner. This was not anticipated, but gave us a chance to relax from our trip.

Dining was relaxing and staff was friendly and engaging, answering our endless questions about the open menu, and their experience at Hedges, and where they grew up. The food presentation is well done, but not exotic. It is tasty and generously portioned, while not overwhelming. If you want something, just ask.

Our stay of two nights gave us ample opportunity to investigate the many sitting rooms in the lodges, fireside chat, a presentation by a local NYS Ranger, lounge by the lake, and go tandem canoeing. Local activities included experiencing the 2nd annual flotilla, Adirondack Museum, as well as Long Lake air tour.

Hedges was foundational in our relaxing in the ADK region, eliminating breakfast and dinner meal planning from our agenda, and sleeping/resting site open, relaxing, and refreshing. We recommend a stay here for a couple of days, or an overnight to refresh and prepare you for the next leg of your trip.

Lovely cabin grounds on the coast of blue mountain lake in the Adirondack region of New York. Rates are high compared to a campground or hotel, but the value matches. Food and amenities are all included in the nightly rate. The staff is welcoming and friendly. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the scenery is hard to beat. In the suites above the dinning hall, the showers are hot and stay hot, the bathrooms are spacious and clean, and the rooms are large and comfortable. Don't expect to be roughing it just because you're in the woods. Just be warned that because these suites are above the dining hall it can be very noisy during breakfast and Dinner, though the dining hours are reasonable (about 8AM-8PM) in case you sleep in or bed early. The food/meals quality is easily something you would expect to pay over $20 per person for. All in all this is a place I would gladly...

In 2021 The Hedges on Blue Mountain Lake will celebrate one hundred years of serving the public with a unique Adirondack experience. A series of owners including the Van Yperin family and most recently Pat Benton have laboured lovingly to preserve this former Great Camp and ensure that an important piece of history lives on as much more than a museum. Now owned by a consortium of families and individuals and placed on the Federal Register of National Historic Landmarks, the future looks secure. Accommodations include the Main Lodge, Stone Lodge, Dining Hall, many unique cabins, tennis courts, canoe and kayaking, a swimming dock and access to the surroundings. Two meals are included and lunches can be requested. Closed in late October (Columbus Day) for the winter.

It is always such a treasure to be able to spend time at the hedges. This stay was just as excellent. My family and I had a quiet and fun stay. Everyone that works at the Hedges are polite, kind, helpful and welcoming, often going above and beyond to make our stay special. You can't beat having exceptional meals, access to water crafts and immaculate rooms. We also had the pleasure to partake in a pastel class, an astronomy talk and of course a nightly bonfire with yummy snacks provided. If you plan to take a trip to the Adirondacks I can't suggest a stay at the hedges more!
