Decent-looking motel in a beautiful area (everywhere around here is beautiful), but truly bare-bones and basically no on-site staff of any kind. It's glorified glamping, but without any sort of natural charm. A roadside motel, bought by absentee owners who have seemingly no interest in engaging with their clientele.
They have some weird rules: You have to take out your own trash to the dumpster (totally makes sense when at a campground, but at a motel? a bit odd); they warned that you might overload the circuits and lose power, but if it happens at night then you just have to wait until morning to call; no shoes allowed in the room (I prefer not to wear shoes inside, but it's a motel, not an AirBNB, and they do have a housekeeper who comes by, so again, odd to have that as a house rule, and a bit off-putting -- and it was unclear where I was supposed to leave my shoes?).
There is no air conditioning; it was perfectly nice while we were there, but that could be difficult on hot summer days. They have a pool, but it was closed; they offered me a discount against a future stay, even though I booked a room that advertised a pool, and they didn't seem to be doing any work on the pool even though it was 3 months between when they said it needed repair and when we arrived. I'm sure they were saving money by not rushing the repairs, while still making the same money off of their guests as if they had the amenities that they lied about in their add. And to top it all off we saw a mouse in the room ... but that's what happens when you're barely paying any attention to your own property.
It's sad that people buy a motel while living hundreds of mile away and neglect it. Basically the new owners aren't doing any work at all, except the hard work of owning property. I'd consider coming back here if they sell it to someone with an interest in running an inn, but as it stands, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, and you'd be better off giving your money to someone local if you want to stay in the beautiful...
Read moreI recently stayed at The Lorca in the Adirondacks with my husband and little one. We booked this motel because the website showed gorgeous photos of the property, and the information was so thoughtfully laid out I was so excited to end my family vacation sitting around a campfire having s’mores and making memories in this rustic retro motel.
Unfortunately that wasn’t the experience we had. When we first arrived we took a walk around the property and found that the picnic area was as if someone had a party and no one had cleaned up and there was mouse droppings in the dishes in the ‘cooking hut’.
Our room while it had cute furniture and a nice coat of paint, the curtains did not cover the windows fully and were hung on pieces of trim so when you pulled the curtains open the trim would fall off the hook, and there was no curtain in the bathroom. Usually this wouldn’t be an issue, however the next door neighbours who were having a bbq in their backyard 15ft from the bathroom made it feel uncomfortable. The shower stand to hold soap/shampoo was completely broken too.
All of these things on their own were disappointing and misleading in comparison to what is shown on their website but what was the most shocking was the absolute worst customer service I’ve ever experienced.
As someone who has worked personally in customer service for over 20 years, I was appalled at the lack of help offered and by both the manager and owner of this property. When asking for some information regarding the lake, s’mores kit and requesting something for the bathroom window or moved to another unit for more privacy, we were met with apathetic text messages and rude responses to our requests. They did refund 75% of our stay which is what this place is actually worth but not without a petty comment.
If the Lorca spent half as much effort into their motel as they did their website and a bit of hospitality training it might be an alright...
Read moreThis place is basic, it's not the lap of luxury, it's an Adirondack motel on the side of a state road. The room was clean, it smelled like pine. Bathroom was nice, small, but nice. Super hot water with good pressure. The beds were really comfortable, the pillows could use more support. The coffeemaker, tea kettle, etc. were a nice touch. We found camping cookware under the bed. The room seemed like it was more for winter visitors with a space heater, a wall heater, lots of blankets, than summer guests. It was cool at night with a nice breeze so with the windows open and a fan it was comfortable.
We used the room as a base point to go visit one of our kids who was at camp not too far away. We're from an area where everything is within 5-20 minutes driving so we kind of wondered about supermarkets and things like that.
There's not much around here so we got lucky in that this place was available at a reasonable price. You're not going to find 5 star hotels.
I would definitely think of this place as more of a way to rest between hikes, kayaking, fishing, hunting, etc.
There was a booklet with recommendations for food. There was also some maps including one with all the hiking trails in Indian Lake.
We didn't really have any interactions with the staff or owners aside from messages about how to get the key to the room.
There's no TV. Which annoyed the kids a little but the WiFi was strong so we just streamed videos to keep them occupied.
The outside was quiet, aside from the occasional vehicle going down the road. My wife and I sat on the Adirondack chairs sipping wine looking at stars one of the nights we stayed here.
We didn't really explore the area but we hope to return some day to do that. Lots of outdoor activities to...
