Read moreWe have been coming to The Rushes for 25 years. Located on the "Quiet Side" of Door County, The Rushes is situated in a forested area on the shore of Kangaroo Lake and has a sizeable nature preserve with walking and cross country ski trails. It is impeccably maintained, annually earning RCI Gold Crown status which is reserved for resorts which received the highest ratings from guest surveys. Brenda and Ray run fun and interesting activities for young and old throughout the week. Many are free, but some have modest fees to cover the cost of materials. Depending on the time of year, there are sailboats, kayaks, canoes, bicycles, tennis rackets, basketballs, horseshoes, and cross country ski gear available and are free for guests to use. There is an indoor rec center with pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, workout room, game room, and full locker facilities. The units are all comfortable, large duplex two-story townhomes with two or three bedrooms, two baths, full kitchen and laundry, living room, dining room, attached private garage, woodburning fireplace, and large deck with a Weber gas grill. Firewood and kindling are free and stocked in the garage. Most units have a private master suite located on the second floor. A few have the master on the first floor, although we have never stayed in one. Units are well maintained and attractive. The resort is in the midst of a five year plan to extensively redecorate the units. I have not yet stayed in a redecorated unit. The old decor had become a bit dated, in excellent condition and still quite pleasant, but best described as cozy Wisconsin. Everyone is friendly and relaxed at The Rushes. The Rushes is a fantastic place to vacation as a family, with something for everyone to do without ever leaving the resort. When you do leave, Baileys Harbor is ten minutes away with some truly excellent dining. Chives, Door County Brewing and Music Hall, Bearded Heart Coffee, Coyote Roadhouse, and several others are really fun and delicious. We love that Door County still has supper clubs, but many of the newer restaurants would be right at home in a hip Chicago neighborhood. The variety is wonderful. I highly...
