Visiting Big Bay Town Park on Madeline Island was an experience that surpassed all my expectations. This park is a true hidden gem, offering a serene escape into nature's embrace.

The park's natural beauty is simply breathtaking. From the lush, green trails that are perfect for a peaceful hike, to the stunning views of the lake, every corner of Big Bay Town Park is a testament to the beauty of the great outdoors. The tranquility of the area is something that photos just can't capture fully; it’s something you have to experience in person.

One of the highlights for me was the sandy beach. It's a perfect spot for a relaxing day by the water, whether you're looking to swim, sunbathe, or just enjoy the scenic views. The water was crystal clear and refreshing, providing a delightful respite on a sunny day.

The park is also well-maintained, which speaks volumes about the dedication of the staff and the community to preserving this natural wonder. The facilities, including picnic areas and restrooms, were clean and convenient, adding to the overall positive experience.

For those who love camping, the park offers a great camping experience with well-spaced sites that allow for privacy while still being close to the natural attractions of the area.

In conclusion, Big Bay Town Park is a must-visit for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat into nature, a family outing, or just a day away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It’s a place that offers a blend of relaxation, adventure, and scenic beauty. I can't wait to return and explore more of what this beautiful park...

What a wonderful park!!! Anyone who says the bathrooms stink used the pit toilets by the beach, not the flush bathrooms around the office and campsites, which are very clean. People have been coming here to camp for over 40 years! So make reservations! Sites are competitive, but you can now book 600 days in advance! Bring cash for firewood and showers, The park has a wood barn, and it is $5 cash only for a load. Showers are quarter operated. There is a change machine on site. $2 will get you a 4 minute shower. Also, the park is incredibly dog friendly. They ask that you leash and clean up after your dog and not let your pooch be a nuisance to your neighbors. Fair enough! Quiet time is 10pm. Be prepared to enjoy the prettiest beach in the Midwest and a hidden gem. (Beaches are golden and sandy!) Check ferry prices before toting your RV over, as it is pricey. The park is not affiliated with any boat rentals. If you want to rent a kayak or paddleboard, check out Adventure Vacations. Bog Lake outfitters also has self service canoes for rent at the beach, so bring cash for that as well. The lagoon is its own entire ecosystem and fascinating in its own right. The town park is free to visit, and they happily take donations but do not charge admission. This island is the spiritual homeplace of the Objibwe and you can feel the magic once you glimpse the lagoon and walk the boardwalk, if you are quiet...

Howdy, beach lovers! I recently had the pleasure of basking in the sun and sand at the incredible Big Bay Town Park on Madeline Island, and let me tell ya, it was a beach paradise that stole my heart. This hidden gem offers a slice of pure bliss, with its pristine sandy shores and crystal-clear waters. The beach stretches for miles, providing ample space to spread out and soak up the sun. The water was refreshing and inviting, perfect for a dip to cool off from the summer heat. The surrounding nature was simply awe-inspiring, with lush greenery and gentle waves lapping the shoreline. The beach facilities were well-maintained, with picnic areas and grills that made it a perfect spot for a family outing or a beachside barbecue. The atmosphere was relaxed and serene, with the sound of seagulls and the gentle breeze creating a sense of tranquility. I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of peace and appreciation for the beauty of nature surrounding me. Whether you're looking to relax, swim, or simply marvel at the wonders of Lake Superior, Big Bay Town Park is a beach lover's dream come true. We camped on site 32 which comes with 1 reserved parking spot at the main parking lot. Our site had enough room for a 7x6 and 16x9 tent. The cons about the sites by the main parking is that there isn't much privacy (see photo), the bathroom building lights are always on and people like to drive in during night time to go to the beach along with being obnoxiously loud. On a side note Big Bay Town Park campground needs a better reservation system. During our stay there, we saw a handful of vacant spots but were not opened for reservations because people don't cancel their reservations when they can't make it is my assumption. Aside from the campground, the lagoon and beach are crystal clear and spacious. The beach shoreline is rocky for the first few feet, but clears up as you go further into the water. You could also hike a bit further following the boardwalk to access other shorelines of the beach that doesn't have rocks. As for the lagoon, there are self-serve canoe rentals available for $10/hour.
