We just returned from a week long stay at Tall Pines Resort in Hayward Wi. It's a great resort with an excellent restaurant/bar onsite. ||||We stayed in cabin #2 which is a two bedroom with king in one room and a full and twin in the other. That was perfect for two adults and 2 kids ages 10 and 12. Upon arrival the cabin was spotless. Furnishings were what you would expect from an "up north" resort. Functional but not fancy. Bed linens are supplied (bath or kitchen towels etc are not - that's standard) The kitchen had everything we needed, although I would recommend bringing some extra food storage containers, ziploc bags etc. The bathroom had a stall shower with excellent water pressure. The cabin had a deck/porch on the front with chairs and a picnic nearby. ||||While we were there the bar/restaurant was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Starting on Wednesday they had food specials every night. Make it a point to try the Chicken Dinner special on Thursday. This was FABULOUS fried chicken with choice of potato, cole slaw and a role for 9.95. I repeat - TRY THIS CHICKEN DINNER! Everything we had there was very good. The bar is newly remodeled and the place is much bigger than it looks from the outside. Its' a great place for adults to have a cocktail and for families going out to dinner. ||||This is a great resort on a great lake. Mike and Angie are the best resort hosts in the area. My family can't wait to get back for...
Read moreWent here looking for some place new for dinner around the area. Service was good, although it seemed to be a little while to get our food. It was a little more casual than what we were expecting but the atmosphere was lively. I had the Italian beef & cheese sandwich as they were touting their Chicago ties with their Cub propaganda on the walls and it looked absolutely fantastic when it came out. However, the meat was very dry and bland. No peppers or seasonings on the beef. Could have used some giardiniera or something. It just kinda felt like it was cooked in a broiler oven or something, and I actually had to put some ketchup on it to get it down. The others I was with seemed to enjoy their meals as they had the chicken dinner, but it certainly wasn't outstanding. I don't expect much from anything having to do with Chicago but Italian beef is something that actually should be good...
Read moreThis isn't listed under restaurants for Hayward but it should be! The meals served in the bar are excellent. The fish fry was one of the best I've ever had. Another night we had tasty burgers with homemade potato chips. The salad was very high quality greens, which is rare to find even in expensive super clubs. I've heard the Sat night ribs are to die for. Also accessible by boat with a convenient dock. So even if you don't stay at this resort be sure to visit for a meal. Great friendly service too. And...
