We were doing the Sparta-Elroy Bike Trail (see review if you're interested) and looking for something relatively close to either end of the trail where we could also bring our dog. There aren't many options! But we were so happy to find Grapevine Log Cabins! There are 4(?) of them on a working dairy farm. So yes, you will smell the cows when you go past them but it is also fascinating to see how they are milked and the milk collected. You'll also find some of the most beautiful quilt work which was made by the current owner's grandmother. ||||There is a small playset for little kids, grills, a fire pit. Cabin comes with 4 beds. There is a TV but it will only allow DVDs to be played (there are 100s of them in the main office area). This was fine for us - who wants to be hooked on a screen when you're on holiday? ||||There is a small bar fridge and they had left us milk, yogurt, fruit, some muffins and bottled water. There were also mixed cereals and disposable cups, bowls, spoons etc - because there is no sink (apart from the basin in the bathroom). There is a Keurig coffee machine and tea bags. ||||The weekend we went was 95*+ and the little a/con unit and fans in the cabin were able to keep us cool. ||||Beds were super comfortable, curtains and blinds blocked out the light. It was really clean and perfect for 3 of us. ||||A great little find and close enough to town to get to restaurants,...
Read moreAs soon as Patty told me I could help feed the baby cows when we stay there, I was sold. We stayed in the Bear Lodge (2nd cabin) with our two dogs and even they seemed to feel right at home as soon as we unpacked the vehicle. We stayed 3 nights and it was peaceful and relaxing every night. The wifi is a bit weak and the cell service is even slower but you don't stay in the country to be on your phone the whole time so it wasn't an issue. We came out to go to the Mississippi Mayhem vintage car show which was held in West Salem. The cabin is a perfect distance from anything you need while offering a quaint, peaceful and safe place to stay. My dogs absolutely loved the farm smells and watching the owners on their farm equipment/ meeting new people and furry friends. Glenn and Patty were wonderful hosts and their son Cody and his wife Celine were just as welcoming. Celine helped me feed the baby cows our last morning before leaving and expressed so much love and passion for what they do, it really warms your heart. They have generations of cows on their dairy farm and they all have their own name and back story. Their dog Reno thought he was the star of the show and is definitely on the welcoming committee. He is so sweet and you can tell he loves every visitor they get. I can't say enough great things about our stay. I look forward to our next trip to the area just so we can...
