This roadside motel in a forested mountain landscape in the Catskills provided a memorable experience. The rooms were very clean and cozy, the owner was friendly and a very knowledgeable and helpful guide on local points of interest & history, and the breakfast room had a beautiful rustic wooden design complete with a wood-burning fireplace the owner kept aflame. The generous breakfast included fresh bagels & muffins with jams and cream cheese, hot & cold cereals, fresh fruit, and tea/coffee/juice. Best of all was the locally tapped amber maple syrup the area is famous for (delicious in oatmeal). My stay here gave me the feel of a stay at grandma's cottage in the woods :) The room included comfortable beds, a mini-fridge, satellite TV, wifi, a very effective space-heater, new easy-to-open windows (to enjoy the fresh mountain air), and full-sized shampoo/conditioner. The tap water is pure & flavorless, derived from wells in the pristine Catskills Park aquifer protected by the state. Just a 15-20 minute drive to Windham Mountain Resort and the tasty mom & pop restaurants and art shops that line the base of the mountain. Hunter & Belleayre Mtn ski resorts are within 30 min drive. There are many other cute mountain towns nearby, and plenty of awesome hiking trails. I recommend Katerskill Falls, right along a Rt23 pull-off. The area is beautiful and everyone we met up here was friendly and helpful, I hope to visit again soon and would love to stay at Black Bear...

I had to ask the owner to wash the microwave plate because there was caked on food. The floor was really dirty which I realized after spilling water.|These things wouldn’t bother me normally, but since we are living in Covid-19 times, it bothered me a little that they aren’t meticulous about cleaning and maintenance||The good:|Owners are very nice and accommodating. I arrived really late and the owners stayed up to greet me. She also made sure I had everything I needed.|They have a small continental breakfast to go (COVID-19) which consists of a banana, muffin, coffee/tea. Everything is laid out really neatly and there’s more than enough for all guests.|Location is good. I visited several sites in the Catskills and most were within 30 minutes of this motel.|It’s pet friendly! Which is the main reason I chose this place, along with the price. And there’s more than enough room in the back for my dog to run and get a...
Read moreBlack bear lodge was a great experience. For the price, the location and the accommodations were perfect. The room was very affordable and close to the mountain, everything was very clean and the staff at check in was very pleasant. We stayed in room 2 and the room was bigger than expected since we were expecting a standard motel room size. The beds were comfortable and smelled clean (even the comforter seemed clean which is very rare especially for motels). There was a little area by the front door in the room for your skis/snowboard and ski gear. The room had a microwave and a mini fridge as well as a kitchen table for two! If you are looking for an affordable trip the Catskills/Hunter mountain this is great...
