We have been vacationing at the Flambeau Flowage for over 40 years and I think we have found our new favorite place. The grandchildren loved the small beach, the paddleboat, the grassy areas to play, and especially Deadhorse Lake where they caught little panfish as fast as their father or grandfather could take them off the hook. The owners, Kathy and Bob, were very nice to them and showed them their goats and chickens.||||The bigger kids (and grandparents) loved canoeing on both the Flowage and Deadhorse Lake, the swimming raft, fishing on the Flowage, and the nice area to sit on the beach. There is also a shared use firepit. Fishing was not a priority, but the one time that the three guys went out they caught bass and northern for dinner in a couple hours. For those who are familiar with the Flowage, the bridge into Merkle is close by and had enough water under it to get canoe and motorboat under it. That opens up the whole Flowage without the long trip around "The Big Island". It does not always have enough water, so it's kind of potluck with that. That's why we waited so long to try this end of the Flowage to stay.||||We (6 adults, 2 children, and one baby) stayed in the Wildwood. The well-equipped kitchen and living areas are spacious and comfortable. The living area has a beautiful view of the Flowage. That being said, this is a Northwoods vacation. Expect clean, serviceable, but not luxury appointments and you will be happy.||||The damage deposit was returned promptly with the same efficiency that they displayed throughout the week. Since they live across the road, they are usually available for questions. Bob saved us a repair bill by giving us a tip on how to baby our 30 some year old motor that had been sitting for two years...
Read moreI usually don't write reviews but feel compelled to share our experience with this resort. Not sure how this place gets 5 stars. If I could give it a 0 I would. Stayed there with a party of six for a week of fishing. Water front littered with goose crap. I am sure this gets dragged into the cabins. Owner more than once reminded us about were to park. We know, but need time to unload. On site restaurant was pretty much deserted. Not sure why. Food, Prices, Ownership ? Lot of signage in the cabin, but I don't mind being reminded to conserve. Docks for boats are in need of repair. Tie-down eyelets missing with no boat protection on sides of docks. Seemed like someone was watching us the whole time we where there. Some cabins vacant during peek times, wonder why. Here is the straw that broke the camels back. I was leaving early to miss the oncoming rain. I loaded my boat at the resorts ramp. I gave it some throttle to get it on the trailer when the owner approach me and started to cuss me out. He stated that there is a sign that states no power loading. I did not honestly see he sign. Maybe because it was facing the lake and not the approach. I apologized for this but he continued on cussing me out and then calling me a Fuc.... Idiot. Whoa. The owner of the resort talking to a guest this way. Don't worry Bob, we won't be back. Rest at ease. Your rates after all were some of the highest in the area. Just thought I would give people a heads-up on what they can expect at the Deadhorse...
Read moreOwners very nice. Resort very well kept and cabin spacious and more like a home. A bit more expensive than we usually spend, but well worth it as there were 6 of us. Nice beach area with wooden chairs by the group camp fire. Swim out raft and small sand beach. Paddle boat (shared use) and fishing boat (no motor) available with the cabin. Kayaks available for rent. Resort also rents motors for the fishing boat to use on the Flowage. Property is set between a small lake (Deadhorse Lake) and the Flowage. Canoes also availbable for free use on Deadhorse Lake. My husband caught some nice fish on the Flowage. Small pan fish in Deadhorse Lake. Kids enjoyed fishing from the dock. There is also a playground available for kids by the lake. Resort is located two miles from Gateway Lodge which has a bar/restaurant. Serves lunch and dinner with food good and reasonably priced. Deadhorse Lodge is 8 miles (12 minutes) ...
