The Cameo Rose Country Inn has been an important part of many of our family celebrations over the years. So I am rather ashamed that this is the first review I've written in all that time. I think what prompted my writing now is a fresh realization and sense of appreciation for the quality of our visit as we pulled away from the inn at the end of our Valentine getaway this February. Innkeeper Dawn and her husband Garry go beyond expectations to make their guests feel comfortable and cared for. Two examples from our recent visit: 1.) We came on a Wisconsin February weekend so, of course there was snow. We were delayed way beyond our planned arrival so I called to explain and Dawn said just give them another call as we left Madison. As we came to the Cameo Rose sign and pulled off the snowy highway we were delighted and surprised that Gary had freshly plowed their lengthy private drive just for us! And when we reached the Inn there was Dawn all bundled up and shoveling and sweeping the sidewalk so we could have a safe walk from the car park to the porch! 2.) Dawn always says to let her know if there is anything she can do to make her guests more comfortable so I called the morning of our trip to ask if I could have some extra pillows to prop my head up to help with breathing at night. She not only came up with a pillow wedge she spent time that afternoon sewing a cover for it to match the décor of the room! I remember the first time my husband surprised me with a weekend at Cameo Rose --- IT WAS MAGIC! I'm pretty sure adults need recess even more than kids do! To go from work schedules, doctors' appointments, car repairs, school events, unending bills and even more unending meal planning and prep... to a beautiful Victorian home, hidden away on miles of Wisconsin rolling hills and forests. When we arrived Dawn offered us mugs of hot cider and homemade cookies while we signed in and then she took us to our beautiful room. Since we were celebrating both a birthday and Valentine's Day my husband went the extra mile and arranged with Dawn for a bouquet of long stemmed yellow roses, a box of chocolates and CHAMPAGNE! There was a large bay window with white eyelet lace curtains and a window seat. A queen sized bed with soft inviting comforter, piles of lace trimmed pillows. I know I'll sound like Goldilocks, but the truth is the bed wasn't too hard and it wasn't too soft. It was JUST RIGHT~ And the crowning touch... a fireplace to sit in front of sipping champagne and talking together without interruption! I said it was MAGIC, right? The Cameo Rose is immaculately maintained, romantically decorated with a combination of authentic antique items and comfortable modern furnishings. Dawn serves the most delicious multi-course breakfast in a formal dining room looking out on bird feeders--- this past visit there were red cardinals against the white snow – possibly a special booking for...
Read moreWe stayed for 3 nights and were extremely pleased with every aspect of the experience. Dawn and Gary were gracious hosts. Cameo Rose is set in a quiet, serene location surrounded by well cared for Victorian gardens. A wide variety of birds visit the feeders. We even saw a peacock near the property and on our last morning a wild turkey strolled through the yard while we were having breakfast. There is a screened-in gazebo available to sit outside and enjoy the gardens, a beautiful fountain, a hammock, a wrap-around porch with ample seating, as well as walking paths to explore. On our first night, freshly baked brownies were waiting for us in our room. On the second night, we were treated to freshly baked cookies. On the third night, we found freshly baked cupcakes with one with a birthday candle to celebrate our daughter’s birthday the next day. The breakfasts were absolutely amazing! Dawn is a gourmet cook. Every day, breakfast was served on beautiful china and crystal stemware in a Victorian dining room. The first breakfast was a four-course breakfast and the next two were three-course breakfasts, but no less satisfying and elaborate. As she served, Dawn explained what each course consisted of and she could be seen running out to the garden to pick fresh mint leaves and other herbs for each of the dishes. It was truly amazing to watch. The rooms were just as elaborately furnished as the rest of the house. Our bed was very comfortable, although a little high for me since I am on the short side, but I managed. Each day, Dawn was a tremendous source of information about local restaurants and destinations in the area. I wish we could have stayed longer. It was so relaxing and comfortable. We were so spoiled when got home and had to have a normal breakfast the next morning we all just smiled at each other and remembered our wonderful stay at Cameo Rose. Thank you Dawn and Gary. You...
Read moreWe found about Cameo Rose online and based on the website we decided to stay there three nights for a family wedding/vacation in the Madison area. The place is great...about 20 minutes away from Madison. The grounds are exquisitely well kept and present a very relaxing environment. The front porch faces the pond/garden area and there are manicured woods beyond there, as well as behind the house where there are some well kept trails. Gary does a fantastic job with the property. There are acres of soybean fields next door and I found it very relaxing to sit on the porch and just watch their leaves sway in the breeze. The house has three rooms and one breakfast table so it's a nice intimate environment to sit and chat with fellow guests. Our room was roomy and comfortable. With all that said the highlight of Cameo Rose was our hostess Dawn. She is the sweetest lady and made sure we were comfortable during our stay. Her homemade blend of coffee greets you in the morning followed by a five course breakfast which consisted of an interesting juice blend, a fruit plate,a baked good, a deliciously homemade main dish, and a dessert of sorbet or frozen drink with champagne option. Dawn is very attentive and will fill your coffee cup immediately. She weaved her way in and out of the conversation at the table like a perfect social butterfly. We've stayed at places where the host either dominated the conversation or was absent, Dawn is the perfect happy medium. She knows the area and recommended a nice place for dinner very close by...you don't have to drive to Madison to find good food nearby. We felt we made a new friend and Dawn and my wife became sisters after three days. Cameo Rose is in the top three of Bed and Breakfasts we've stayed at and we plan on returning there...five stars...
