Really enjoyed my time here. Unfortunately it rained most of the two days we were there, but we still made the best of it.
Hiking here is nice. Main roads are paved, but offer great forest walking. You also have the back access roads and ATV trails. I found the best onsite hiking to be the trail that runs along the rapids. It covers the length of the river camp sites, and beyond. This trail offers you the best views of the rapids... The rapids are more intense along sites 1 through 9. Great pictures along this area.
We stayed in site 21. We were one of only a few people when we got there, so we had our pick of sites. After driving around and carefully looking at all the sites, we found 21 to be one of the best. The site was set back further off the road than most, was fairly secluded, wooded well, had good space between the other sites, and had great river access. The reason we chose this site over others, is because it had an area of the rapids that had been damned up by rocks, creating this perfect little swimming hole. Here the water was calm, had very little current, and while only about mid high in the deepest part, offered good wading. This alone was the draw for this site.
My only disappointments with this camp ground were that it was not more secluded than it was, and aside from the river, the area has no good swimming or fishing. All the fishing and swimming spots are at least 8 miles...
Read moreBagley Rapids has numerous campsites including nearly a dozen that front the river. The rapids can be heard from most of the waterfront sites and seen from a handful of them.
Everything here is first-come first-served as of 2022, but reservable sites are planned to be offered in 2023.
On a summer weekday, you’ll have your pick among the sites if not have the campground to yourself. Things are much busier on the weekend, but you can typically still find a site.
There’s a nice swimming spot just a short walk south of the Green Lake Boat Landing, just east of this campground. There’s also a CCC-built shelter still standing on the old picnic grounds there that’s...
Read moreBagley Rapids Campground is a no frills Campground with no electricity, water at pump houses and vault toilets. The grounds are well maintained by the hosts but the forest is not so when trees go down, they are down. Plenty of firewood to pick up. Just not dry.
About half the sites are near the river. Check in as at 2pm, I saw people arriving as early as 11am. First come, first served. Must spend the first night at the Campground.
Lots of services within 10 miles of the Campground including a well stocked gas station, several bars and up the road some, a grocery store. Stop at the national park station to get brochures for the area. Lots of...
