My husband and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary in his hometown of Ogdensburg, NY, an old city located right on the St. Lawrence Seaway and not far from the Bridge to Canada. We wanted an affordable place right on the river and found the Windjammer Lodge. It is an older hotel and quite rustic but was perfect for us.||||It has 20 single level rooms with half facing the river. We stayed in the 2-room luxury suite (#36), which had a king bed in the main room and a queen bed in the second room. There was one bathroom that had a comfortable whirlpool tub. Upon entering, you have a coat closet and a foyer that has a large desk and chair. The main room has a bed, comfortable sofa, small table with chairs and the kitchen that contained all the appliances, pots/pans, utensils, plates and glasses. The second room had a door to the main room and had a nice sized walk-in closet that had an ironing board. Both rooms have nice sized LCD flat panel TVs, dressers and ceiling fans/lights. The décor is very rustic and makes you feel as though you're in a cabin. The lights are constructed of deer antlers while most of the furniture looks like hand-hewn wood from pine trees.||||There is no central air, but you do have an air conditioner in the main room. It was so high, I could not reach the controls - I am 5'3" - so my husband took care of this on hot days. There is a control switch for heaters located on the floor in both rooms. We were there in August and it was quite mild outside so we only used the air several times. ||||Our housekeeper, Angie, was AWESOME and our room was always ready for us. Our room was located right by the guest laundry (located in the snack room). It is coin operated, so bring plenty of quarters, or they'll make change at the front desk. The only downside to this location is that the second bedroom in our suite backs up to the laundry room and it can be quite noisy on occasion.||||Open up the curtains and you have an incredible view of the Seaway. Or, better yet, go outside and lounge by the pool (unheated) or sit in the Adirondack chairs or at the picnic tables. The grounds are carefully maintained all the way to the river. We spent many quiet times sitting by the pool and enjoying the activity on the river. We saw many ocean-going barges slowly pass by. Right across the river is Brocksville, Ontario.||||The Windjammer is a wonderful base for all the other activities in Canada or in the surrounding area. A big disadvantage is that there is no AT&T cell service (you're so close to Canada, Rogers will ping your phone) so we had to drive almost into town to make a cell call. Otherwise, there are land lines in the room and you can make calls from those easily. The Windjammer does have free wireless, which is a huge plus.||||As runners, we also enjoyed running the hills on Route 37 on which the hotel is located. The shoulder lanes are quite wide and we never had trouble with the traffic. Some of the semis going by did create a bit of a gust once in a while. We also found the locals also walked, ran or cycled the same route, which is part of a local triathlon...
Read moreThis might come across as a bad review but it is not. Steve was very friendly. He was more than willing to make our stay a pleasant one . I did have AT&T, and I had service. We had 3 rooms. Two of the rooms were good, however room 39 seemed to have all the problems. We had the view of the St. Lawrence. We did have some problems with opening our door. There weren't enough outlets for charging batteries or using of a CPAP machine, but we just unplugged a few things. One of the outlets wouldn't keep the plug in. The A/C didn't work. The microwave didn't work. The tub was slippery. While taking a shower it would go from the temp., that you wanted, to a scolding hot and then to a freezing cold and finally back to the temp. you had. There is no one there after 10pm so if you need something you have to call Comfort Inn. I didn't realize our A/C was out until after Steve had gone. I am absolutely sure Steve would have moved my room. I had told him the microwave was not working and he said that he would move me. There was no need to because we had 2 other rooms that had working ones. The rooms were clean. The beds were nice and comfy. The pillows were o.k. They were small, but no big deal. The bathroom is very small but you don't live in it. I think one of the biggest things that I could maybe complain about would be on the backside where the view is, the stairs and the little hill are difficult for people with knee problems ect... We wish the weather had been better so we could have...
Read moreWe traveled up to Ogdensburg for a wedding, so this was a quick one night trip. The wedding started at 4PM so I called to be sure we could check in early and they said check in started at two, so that was perfect. We arrived at 2:10 and were greeted by a friendly front desk man. WE had two rooms and were given two keys per room which was nice.||The rooms were great. They were a good size with comfortable beds. the room was very clean. I was excited to see and iron and ironing board in each room as all of the clothes need touched up for the wedding. There is a microwave and fridge in the rooms. I liked the fact the fridge had a freezer section that was bigger than most so I could refreeze things to keep the cooler cold for the trip home.||The bathroom is set up with the sink outside the toilet/bath area which is the best. There were trail size shampoo and conditioner. We had plenty of towels. Another thing I really liked was there was a extra blanket wrapped up on a shelf because I always get cold at night.||The room was quiet. We did not hear any noise from any other rooms. The grounds are well kept. There are lots of chairs to sit out and watch the ships on the river. We did not use the swimming pool, but I loved the location by the river. It was very clean and if we had more time I would have use the pool. ||I would consider taking a long weekend here and just sit and watch the river. It was a relaxing place and I would like to...
