We didn't stay at Afterglow, but we did go cross country skiing here, and we really had a lot of fun! When we arrived, we were given a map, and away we went. There was a nice variety of terrain, from an easy beginner trail to some really nice and fun expert loops. Trails ranged from fractions of a mile to 4 miles, all looping back to the lodge with its warming room (complete with fireplace, magazines to read, and comfortable chairs), restrooms, and very reasonably priced refreshments. The trails were very well groomed for skate and classic skiing, they were well signed, the scenery was very nice, and it had access to the Phelps trail. While I was in the lodge, I saw the resort had put together a nice schedule of activities for guests, and there were also snowshoe trails (snowshoes for rent) and tubing hills (the tubing appeared to be for guests only). Read moreFour women in their 60's have been coming here for about ten years and we LOVE it. ||||We rent a three bedroom cottage right on the lake, cook our own delicious meals, ski out the door on perfectly groomed beautiful cross country ski trails (for striding or skating) and come back to make a blazing fire in the fireplace. There's also a nice lodge. |||| Sometimes we get adventurous, so Pete the owner, takes us plus tubes to the top of a great hill where we go whooshing down laughing. There's also a well maintained skating rink and a hot tub and sauna for private use by sign up. All this is included in the price of the rental. ||||The owners are GREAT. The wilderness surrounding the private lake is gorgeous, especially decked with snow all winter. The winter rates are very reasonable. Give it a try and you will come back...
Read moreThis is my fourth year tagging along with friends who have been skiing here for more than 20 years! I can't say enough about how much we love Afterglow. Pete and Gail and great - pleasant and responsive. The cabins are just right - not too fancy, not too rustic. We stay in Lakeshore Upper and Lower (16 of us!) and it is great. Beds are comfortable and kitchens have everything we need (we do a lot of cooking). Plenty of room to relax. The ski trails are perfectly groomed and there is a great variety of terrain throughout the quiet and beautiful woods. Also snowshoeing/fat tire bike trails. This year I rented a bike. Pete is a big fat tire guy - he gave me pointers and even went out with me once. Then there's tubing down a fast hill... and a fire with apple cider and snacks... and a hot tub... I...
