We stayed at this campground during the July 4th weekend. We choose this campground due to the location of the friends we were visiting. Before picking this location, we reviewed there website. We were impressed by the photos that this would be a nice campground. Wow, were we wrong. First, I made a reservation for a site several months ago. I was told that we would have campsite 12. When I called a day or two before our arrival, they tried to tell me that I had a different site. After correcting the site on the phone, we arrived at the campground and given the option of other sites. After seeing the other sites, I insisted that we keep our original site. This is a wanted-be campground. All the nice large campsites are available only for long term seasonal campers. Short term campers are assigned to extremely small campsites. In some site, the fire pit is located in the center of the site. So if you parked your camper in these sites, your fire pit is under your camper. Most site are not level and in a couple of cases, the site is low enough to gather water during a rain storm. There are 94 campsites and one shower house that has two showers for the entire campground. There is only one narrow curvey road in and out of the campground making it a challenge get in or out if you meet another vehicle with a trailer coming toward you and very little room to pass each other. Plus the dump station is located near the entrance into the campground. If someone was using the dump station and had a very large camper, they would block the entrance and cause you have to wait till they are done and moved on. The campground sites are not groomed, very narrow/small making it tight to park your camper with very little room for a picnic table if you get one. While we were there during during the week when there were only a few campers around, the shower house was not refreshed. And because the campground is near a lake and the grounds are not groomed, mosquitos are extremely bad. We did not see a playground for the kids but the campground is close to the lake. There is a very small area for swimming but no beach and a nearby boat launch. Most sites have water and power hook-up and they provide a service to empty your grey and black tanks if you are staying more than a few days. You cannot bring firewood into the grounds but you can purchase firewood on site at 20 pieces for $10. Overall this campground is overpriced at $40 per night for your camping experience. If you have a choice of a better campground than this one, take it. I strongly do not recommend...
Read moreOvercharged ("hidden" fees I was not made aware of, and did not agree to.)Beware, you will be charged a credit card fee but will not be informed. I would have paid cash if I had known this. Also, I requested to have my credit card information returned to me upon departure (it was written on an index/registration card) but was told it had already been shredded. I found this a little hard to buy - as the person who checked me in said it had to be kept in case I wrecked anything (I was in a tent on the ground ... what could I possibly wreck?). Secondly, on the third day, the owner charged me for my third night, and still had the info. Thidly, when I asked for the refund for the unauthorized charges, she said she would try to credit my card for the charges later (when I asked about the alleged fact that she had already shredded my CC info - she said the information would be saved in her payment system on her phone for a period of time (?). Just saying ... watch what they charge because you won't be told upfront. Quiet time begins at 11:00 PM - kinda late, and professionalism a bit lacking (cigarette hanging out of mouth during interaction.) I gave them 2 weeks to credit my account or mail me reimbursement but it hasn't...
Read moreStayed at the Moen Lake Campground in 2016 and had a blast. The campground offered many camping spot options that seemed to cover many sizes. Being a tent camper we had plenty of room, but I can see that if you have a large RV/Trailer camper you might need to be selective. The owner was a great help in making sure our spot fit us well. They seem to have a lot of full season campers and they will take some of the better camping spots, but there were plenty of great spots to choose from. The campground has lake access that is directly across the street and has great fishing (brought our own boat). There were places to dock a boat and they owner had a small pontoon boat to rent if needed. Overall it was a great and quiet campground to enjoy the great northwoods of Wisconsin. It is reasonably close to downtown Rhinelander so if you do want to venture into town it is super easy (we did not as we wanted to maximize our wildlife exposure). I noticed that they have cabins available for rent as well year round and am looking forward to looking into this option next winter! We will definitely be back to enjoy this great campground and the amazingly nice full season guests. THis place has a lot...
