My fishing partner and I spent a weekend at the Sunrise resort. The accommodations were very nice and clean. I would say better than most. My partner and I have been to dozens of resorts across the Midwest. This is the very first resort we stayed at where the owner/caretaker did not willing give any fishing information. We were asked to give an additional $100 (1 hour) to $350 (half a day) for "guide" services. Our cost for lodging was $300 for the weekend. If you have checked out the website, you will have noticed a real push for the guide services. I'm guessing the owner is off site and the place is run by a caretaker who is also, the local fishing guide. The place is lovely but, it's too bad we didn't get on any fish. It is for this reason we will not be back. Had we been given ANY fishing information it is likely we would have booked the same weekend next year.
10-24-24 update. “… a review of your fishing skills…” Good one , that made me laugh. I, however, will not rise to the bait. If I hired an electrician to do a job I would expect him to do the full job. I would compose a similar review for him if he installed a light fixture then ask for additional monies to connect it to the breaker box. We had already paid for the services of the resort. Those services typically include advice on how to fish the lake. The purpose of my review is to make everyone aware fishing advice is not part of your package. If that is how you want to run your business that is perfectly fine. Just prepare yourself for the occasional bad review, because it seems a lot like double dipping to me. It just doesn’t make sense from a business point of view. Bookings are you bread and butter. If people catch fish they rebook, it as...
Read moreI recently stayed in the Smallmouth cabin which was perfectly fitting as I caught my personal best small mouth on Presque Isle about 7:30 AM on a Saturday morning! I was well rested with the cabin being safe, clean and cozy with two bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a common area with a couch, a kitchen and a screened in back porch. Bed was cozy and so were the pillows. Mosquitoes can be feisty so don’t forget loose clothing and bug spray. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea over the breathtaking views of the sunrises or the sunsets from the back porch. A common area is on site where you can link up to Wi-Fi if needed. This is a fun place to gather, play games and enjoy camaraderie. There are multiple boat rental options such as fishing boats and a pontoon boat which all are reasonably priced along with the nightly stays. If you have your own boat there is parking available. I have personally caught walleye and smallmouth on PI. Musky is on the list for the next visit. The cabin location is perfectly tucked in the Northwoods yet close enough to town to grab a bite to eat, fuel up, or do a little shopping. Staff is super friendly and accomodating! I cannot thank the owners and the staff that made the most out of my weekend stay that was greatly needed to reset in the great outdoors. They provided excellent service ensuring all needs were met while even offering up fishing advice! I highly recommend staying here if you need a...
