A wonderful place for a float trip! With an abundance of State-owned land along the waterway, including many islands, this is an ideal location for a float trip, regardless of your experience level. Beyond Gotham, the river is often very shallow, which may make inexperienced paddlers more comfortable. Pack a meal and plan to spend some time on one or more of the islands. They provide a great opportunity for a rest, and the sandy shores and river bottom make for many opportunities for swimming.

Read moreStay away from trees fallen in water. If wading walk into current (upstream). Bridges create turbulent water. River tends to rise in the night. Be very cautious approaching islands. Sandbar offer your best option for camping especially those that join up to mature islands (some offer shaded area). Glass is not allowed on river. Make sure you are prepared to take your trash out with you. I saw post that says good for inexperienced canoeing or kayaking maybe so if you avoid the hazards I mentioned. The path itself is unpaved and fairly maintained but offers a very isolated and secluded ride past pastures, swamp land and a riverway.
