Disappointed. I was taking my dog to Countryside Vet in Lowville, NY and was unable to find a nearby pet friendly hotel for me and my other dog. After a long search I found Tug Hill Resort, it was a drive, but the reviews were good. I just wanted a clean and safe place to spend the night. While driving from Fairport ( about 3 hours), the signs warning against unnecessary travel from Monday PM until Wednesday AM lined 81 N. When I arrived at Countryside to drop off my dog, I mentioned where I was staying. The storm was set to hit that area and there was a good chance I would get stuck. So the vet gave me the name of a hotel up the road. Due to the impending storm they made a "no pet "exception for me and my dog. When I phoned Tug Hill to let them know I wasn't coming due to the storm and unsafe driving conditions ,the husband said, they have a 7 day cancelation policy. I only booked 2 days before so apparently I could never cancel. I understand they are running a business, but as I told the wife, I am canceling due to the storm, and the possibility of not being able to pick up my dog the next morning . I am not the upper 2%, I am a city school teacher that drove 3 hours to save $3000 ,so I could give my dog acl surgery. I dont have $195 to spend and not receive the service. Capitalism without morality is how we ended up where...
Read moreThis is a fantastic place to stay! It is "off the beaten track." It takes about 20-30 minutes to drive to the resort once getting off of I-81. The roads are all paved, but they are country roads and go through several small towns which are quite charming to see. The rooms are clean and well-maintained and it is wonderfully quiet! We came up to see a few concerts in Syracuse and to see Thousand Islands. Unfortunately, our Thousand Islands trip was rained out, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time relaxing at the resort. There is a kitchen available for guests to do basic cooking and breakfast items are provided. We loved being able to have breakfast whenever we woke up and felt like it. Guests are required to clean up their dishes once they've eaten. There's a fantastic fire pit out back with wood provided. We came as mid-week getaway but this would be a great place for families with kids to stay as well. There are hiking trails behind the resort and lots of open room for kids to be able to play. The hosts are very kind and gracious, quick to respond to any needs that we had, and lovely to talk to. We hope to be back...
Read moreThis was our first trip to Tug Hill to snowmobile. What was supposed to be a great weekend sledding, turned out to be a nightmare. Saturday was a great day on the trails. Sunday we headed out early to do an all day ride and check out a bunch of the towns and trails we heard so much about. Halfway through our day my sled died on 1 of the trails about 30 minutes from any road or human contact. I was able to get some phone service at one point and called George for HELP! I cannot begin to say how wonderful this man is or the people that we met on the trails..everyone spent 4 hours of their time to make sure that we made it out of the trails with my dead sled. George brought us back to the hotel with his car, where we got out truck and trailer and went back to get our sleds at Cedar Pines where we left them. I don't know what we would've done without George. He is absolutely an angel. We loved our stay at Tug Hill Resort and cannot wait to go back again. This proves there are still good people in this world! Thanks...
