We stayed at the RS for one night. The room was on the small side but clean and quaint. It does smell like moth balls. The location is the best part with Adirondack chairs to sit in by the water to enjoy the sunset. We also ate dinner here. They have a nice selection of dishes. It is a little pricey but I would say worth it. Service was excellent and the view from the deck can't be beat. We also really enjoyed the live music. Expect your dining experience to be at least 2 hours. It takes a while to get a table, drink and meal. But if you aren't in a hurry, definitely go here for dinner and sit and relax.

We enjoyed great service and a wonderful meal. Our waitress was great. The wine selection was very good and everything was spot on. Very affordable and worth the drive. An added bonus was the fantastic live music. Thank you for a beautiful evening out. Make a reservation if you want to be seated promptly and confirm the time & date before hanging the phone up with the person on the phone. The staff is very small and like anyplace else mistakes are made. Highly recommend

Remote and simple room. Enjoyed sitting out on the deck looking at the water. Restaurant at a great location on the water and service was excellent. Be prepared to relax and take the time to wait for your food. Room, though clean had a strong smell - you get use to it. The beach on the other hand is not a beach to sit at unless you can take the strong smell of dead fish coming from the uncared for beach next to the property.

We made a reservation for an overnight stay, and a 6 pm dinner on the deck on Thursday, 7/14 to celebrate our anniversary. When we arrived at 5:00pm, we had to search for one of the "owners" Renee, because she was the only one who could check us in to our room. After looking through the paper reservations for a few minutes, she said "I don't see your reservation". I said that she was the actual person who took our reservation. With that information, she was able to find our reservation. We went to our room (#10), to find it closed up and hot as ever! Yes, this is mid July day, and in the mid 80's...Guess what, NO A/C! And to make matters worse there was a dehumidifier running that was pumping out more hot air into the room! We quickly discovered why there was a dehumidifier running, because the room was damp and moldy! Also there was a plastic tub of "Damp Rid" on the floor! Not a good start! There was a television that was hooked up to nothing. When Renee was asked about that, she said "Oh, they are working on that problem" WTF! Anyhow, we changed quickly, and walked to the restaurant at 5:45pm for our 6pm dinner reservation Both Renee and the hostess were there, and said that they did not have a table outside for us as i had reserved, and that we could sit inside, or wait. One of the main reasons that we chose to give this establishment our business and celebrate our anniversary there was to be able to dine outside by the water and enjoy the sunset while enjoying a leisurely celebration dinner! We chose to wait, so we could salvage something from this already disappointing and frustrating experience. Approximately one hour later, and $38 in cocktails, I went in to check if we had a table yet. The hostess said, not yet, no-one has left. I then pointed out to her that a table for two had been vacancy for at least 20 minutes, and no-one had bussed it, or come to get us. She said, that she would check, and surprise, we were seated right after I had pointed that out to her. Once seated, we decided to "reset" the evening, and make the most of our celebration! Our table was great, and the view was stunning! About 10n minutes after we were seated, our server came and weas absolutely lovely! We enjoyed a fantastic meal, and the most beautiful sunset we have seen since being on the Gulf Coast of Florida!||We went back to our room around 10pm, and opened all of the windows to try to bring some of the cool night air in. The bed was soft, but the sheets were rough, and ill fitting. After tossing and turning, and trying to get comfortable in the warm, musty smelling room, we got up at 3:45am, packed up, and drove home to salvage some of the nights sleep! Fortunately, we only live 45 minutes away!||All in all, The food and service and the view were fantastic! The room was a disaster, and the customer service provided by "Renee" was horrible! My suggestion is to go for dinner (but don't count on your reservation), and don't ever stay in pone...

“Rainbow Shores” a fisherman’s friend I felt compelled to write a review after reading some others. We’ve been coming here for years and love the place! Several years ago new ownership took over the place and they have continued to make noticeable improvements. This is NOT the place for high class/high maintenance people and shouldn’t be compared to other brand name lodging establishments. I couldn’t help but laugh to myself after reading some other complaints about door function, cleanliness, odors etc. First off the place is old, out dated and lakeside but that is part of its charm. While we are there, the doors and windows are always open to allow lakeside breezes to pass though the unit. We always meet nice people from many walks of life that visit the place and on clear days just before sunset they all come out to take pictures and view “postcard style” sunsets on the lake……..absolutely breathtaking! Good people, great food, spectacular sunsets, world class fishing and a private place to kick back, relax and take it all in. If I lived a bit closer I would consider this place for a romantic getaway too. They do provide cleaning service and my rule or code is that you always tip people that serve you or clean up after you. River stones line the lake and fill the beach. It is always fun to bring some sharpies and record the memories on the stones and place them in and around the units. Some are very creative and it’s fun to do. We look forward to returning every year and like a 2nd home, we treat it with respect. Each time we come we’ve left behind some old comforts from home to improve our next stay that everyone can enjoy like cooking skillets, DVR/VCR TV combo, coffee pots, shower heads etc. The point is we enjoy and respect the place enough to treat it like it was ours. The restaurant is in another class however, it’s outstanding! The portions are generous, the setting is charming and the service is very good. They are hardworking people doing their best to satisfy the customer. We look forward to coming back soon. Till then, we wish you continued success, growth and good fortune. May all us fishermen have...

We were very disappointed. My family and I have come to Lake Ontario on Labor Day weekend for 25 years. We always spend one evening at Rainbow Shores and look forward to it and are generally happy with our meal. Last night was a mess. We had 7:15 reservation, that I made days in advance. We arrived 15 minutes early. Were told they were not seating early and it would be 15 min after our reservation time before we would be seated. Ok, 30 minutes, no problem. We found a seat and I waited for service at the bar. 45 minutes I waited to get 2 bottles of beer and 2 glasses of wine. No greeting, no eye contact , no “I’ll be right with you”. Finally received our drink order and found new seat to wait, another 20 minutes for a table. We were finally temporarily seated at a table then moved to where we would dine. Another 20 minutes we sat there. No acknowledgement that we were there, no offer of water or bread or a drink or ‘had anyone been to see us’. Keep in mind our reservation was for 7:15 it was then 8:25. No drinks, no waitress, nothing. When we finally received our meal it was 9:00. When questioned about why we were upset we were told that a dining experience at Rainbow Shores averages 2 hours. That would be fine if we had our service and food during those 2 hours not at the end of it. I did speak with the hostess and while doing so was rudely questioned by one of the wait staff as to why we left our server a short tip. Our waitress let us sit for 20 minutes with nothing and made a mistake on an order which we overlooked As a patron the only recourse we have if we are unhappy with service is to either not pay the bill, leave a bad review, a smaller tip or none at all. If that particular waitress is upset with the tip we left because they all share tips, then I suggest she complain to management and get it from them. Someone needs to be accountable for the evening. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll be back. Maybe if someone had made us feel like they cared, offered a free round of drinks, dessert, something other than a “Sorry, but…..” I’d consider it but $200 and 2 hours and 45 mins for four bowls of pasta,...
