This was one of the best camp sites I have ever been to. It is so beautiful, peaceful, and right on the river. I love it so much that I kind of want to keep it a secret! ;-) This is a privately owned campsite. The owner, Heidi, is very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The owners have a bunch of farm animals at their welcome trailer, and sell fresh eggs, along with some other items at their small store. There are different sites for RVs, an area called the Island, as well as an area called the Pines for a more quiet and secluded setting. Dogs are welcome in all sites except the Pines!||||We stayed at the site farthest away in the Pines. We had to park our car and walk about 100 yards to the campsite, using wheelbarrows (provided) to bring our stuff. I liked being so secluded and the requirement of physical activity. I cannot begin to describe the soothing sound of the river, and how peaceful it made the setting. I slept like a baby. There were a bunch of firefly's at night, putting on a sparkling show. The trail within walking distance from the sites is about 2 miles roundtrip and leads you up an exciting path alongside the river, where you pass a few small waterfalls to get to a beautiful, large one at the top. ||||I am in my late 20s and camped quite a bit in college. This location is not one for big groups or partying. This is a quiet place for people looking for privacy, beauty, and a relaxing time. We stayed the 4th of July weekend, and while there were a good amount of people occupying the sites, it still felt very secluded. My friends that are regulars there say it is usually one or two other people you may see the entire time.||||Will definitely be going back to this place, and sharing it with all my loved ones. If you enjoy the mellow kind of car camping with a few people, this camp site...
Read moreOkay-totally agree that this place should be a secret but if you happen to find it on the internets somehow-go on and make the reservation. It's more expensive than the state parks (like 100 per night) but totally worth it. This was our second year to do a fall camping trip-last year we went to Beaver Pond which was nice and close to NY but also close to EVERYONE else. Like you had to watch the car door when you got out that you didn't bang it into the neighbor. we were just going up for quick weekend. The drive up from NY was pretty. We stayed at P6 which was gorgeous-right on the stream (which kindly keep our beers cold) and babbled all night. The Pines sites (P1-P7)all come with a couple of bundles of wood and have plastic patio chairs there, a perfect stone circle fire pit and picnic table. They do have a 2 night minimum for those sites but we lucked out with a rainy Friday and arrived early Saturday to have our pick of the wooded sites along the stream. You do have to schelp your stuff from the car to the site but it's not really very far and there are wheel barrows to help you. The sites were all really nice but 5,6,7 seemed to be the prettiest. 5 has a nice big area for your tent but it's farther from the fire pit. But site 2 though not especially picturesque does have a very exciting feature....there's a Beaver dam there and we lucked out and saw them! I watched one eat a stick! It was amazing. They were swimming around...up and down the stream and you can see where they chewed through some of the trees nearby. So cool! We only saw them once, at dusk but still..so cool. There's also a lovely little hike (takes about 10 minutes) to some waterfalls just past the covered bridge. What's...
Read moreI stayed in one of the sites by the water, and it was very secluded. The sites are very spread out. I read reviews from some people saying this place is creepy, but that is certainly not the case; its a very safe camp ground. The camp ground is run by a nice women and her husband who have a house right as you enter the grounds. They have a little farm, and a bunch of stuff in their yard, but the camp sites are clean. As you drive down the first strip of camp ground, there are a bunch of vacant campers, but people rent the sites all year and leave there trailers there, and come to the site a couple times a year. There is not much lighting at night so make sure you bring your flashlight or lantern, its about as close to real camping as you get. So if your trying to take your family real camping but don't feel like hiking into the middle of no where and setting up shop, then come to this place. It's not a party place as they don't allow large groups or partying. They have a few camping items for sale at there house/office, but not much. Make sure to bring everything you need. They do have coffee and ice though. My complaint was the price which was $70 per night, which should be lowered to about $40 at least, and the bathrooms were not clean. There are showers, and hot water. If you come here planning to use your cell phone, you will probably will not have service. ITS CAMPING, YOUR SUPPOSED TO BE AWAY FROM TECHNOLOGY!! Just a warning in advance if you can't keep your phone down for more then two hours. Other then that it's very peaceful, and the river sites are nice. Also for sale is firewood, if you didn't bring your own. Overall...
