Woodland My partner and I had the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life so we searched for “best bed and breakfast in the Hudson Valley” and came across Captain Schoonmaker’s (CS) Coach House. WHAT A GREAT FIND! A picture is worth a thousand words...but truthfully you’ll have to stay here for yourself to understand its charm . This beautifully renovated coach house is a wonderful getaway spot. Nestled on the property of a historic stone home erected in 1760 by a Revolutionary War hero Captain Frederick Schoonmaker. The room we reserved was beautifully decorated with inviting color schemes and warm rustic-chic decor. The coach house has four bedrooms in total which has all your quintessential finds of a boutique hotel room except a television. Each room even has its own private balcony with views of the wooded area behind the property and allows you to admire Coxing Kill Creek. The (sounds) of the creek is definitely what we needed instead of the sound of midtown traffic. The main stone house is used as a private residence by the hosts, David and Craig. There isn’t a main check in area, as you may find in a hotel, but we couldn’t have asked for more hospitable and welcoming hosts. David initially attended to us when we drove up to the property and escorted us directly to our room. They made sure we got settled with ease and gave us their personal recommendations of every hidden gem of the local towns near by (Rosendale, High Falls and Stone Ridge). The coach house has a common area where you can find a Keurig machine and a refrigerator with water bottles as well as other treats. We found this the evening of our first night when fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies were left for guests to enjoy. Delicious. One concern we did have was noise. We didn’t know if the bedroom walls were thin enough to hear other guests but surprisingly they weren’t. We would hear muffled sounds of other guests speaking which didn’t bother us. But we made sure not to be as boisterous during late hours out of respect to the other guests. My partner and I had a solution for next time around, rent out the whole coach house and invite your friends. Problem solved. There were lawn chairs and a hammock set up near the stream. Our hosts had it arranged around a fire pit which would have been great if the weather permitted it. Unfortunately we were in the midst of a mild snow shower but it did leave the landscape utterly serene. We will definitely be back! Artez and RJ

We loved our stay at Captain Schoonmaker's Coach House! David and Craig were very hospitable and our room exceeded our expectations! The coach house is very well decorated and cozy. The serene surroundings made the balcony and outdoor areas very inviting! High Falls and Rosendale had lots of restaurants and cafes and were fun to walk around. Lastly, the coach house was in great proximity to some really great hikes and outdoor activities in the Catskills and surrounding areas. Highly recommended for an easy weekend getaway!

We had a wonderful stay here during the fall season. We'd be here once before 3 years ago; it seems like there have renovations and changes, for the better! The Waterview room was cozy and clean with a porch and stairs leading straight to the stream. The bed was comfortable and supportive. The only thing to note is that since it's an old wooden house, you can hear other guests walking in and around, but everyone was respectful and quiet throughout the evening hours. Would come back again!

My fiance and I were looking to book a long weekend getaway upstate, but AirBnB's prices and surcharges have gotten out of control. I was so lucky to stumble upon the CS Coach House! We frequent the area but have never stayed in High Falls, and we fell in love. It was the perfect, centrally located town with some excellent restaurants- all just under a mile from the house. We are also big fans of historic properties and were charmed by the restored features of the building. We chose the Woodland room and weren't disappointed. There were beautiful high ceilings, exposed beams, a bright spacious bathroom, and a private balcony overlooking the stream. It was really warm when we arrived but the AC unit and ceiling fan cooled the room down quickly. The bed was very comfortable and the owners provide everything you need including a coffee station, iron, dryer, bug spray, and some nice bath products. Craig and David were very communicative and checked in to make sure we were comfortable, but we still felt like we had plenty of privacy. We were lucky to be the only ones staying at the house all weekend! After seeing that we made a fire the first night, Craig was kind enough to set up the fire for when we got back from a day of hiking, night 2. The CS Coach house feels like a luxury stay, but with the right amount of old rustic charm that we love. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this...
