We camped at Pine Grove Campground in May 2019 for their Military weekend. They didn't have the pool open yet, as it was too cold. Many other amenities weren't set up yet either, so I can't comment on all the "extras". ||||We walked around the entire campground and what we loved was that every site was a different size and shape. The roads are curvy all throughout the campground, and the sites are very deep. Any of them could have easily fit our 35' camper. We were on site 120, across from the bathrooms and dumpsters. It didn't smell bad at all! All but a few tenting sites in the 200's are sand/dirt/gravel, no grass. Our camper floor was filthy by the end of the weekend. However, our site was also so level that we didn't even need a single board to level out our camper!||||The map makes the campground look huge, but really, it's not a mega campground. Unless you're camping in a far outlying site, everything is easily within walking distance, even for our 3 yr old's little legs. Most seasonals have golf carts they're driving around, but for a weekend warrior, I didn't feel it was necessary to rent one at all.||||The bathrooms were kept clean, though the ones by our site (not the ones by the store) had a slight musty odor to them. I saw brand new AC units set up near the bathrooms that they plan on installing soon, so that should help. I didn't shower in their bathrooms, so I can't comment on that. They also had many new portapotties set up throughout the campground. It's impossible to go anywhere and not see a portapotty within sight distance. ||||We were impressed by all the work they seemed to be doing around the campground. They really seemed to be making many improvements and upgrades around the campground, and it shows.||||I also liked the variety of equipment on the playground. They had things my 3 yr old enjoyed and things to challenge my 8 yr old. Nothing was run down or broken or seemed unsafe to play on.||||We walked down by the lake (or pond?). It had a nice new pier put in recently, and an older pier too. My son went fishing (didn't catch anything, but he's not an expert either!). If it were the middle of July and sweltering hot, I might consider going in that pond. I'd consider it, then decide to swim in the pool instead. There was so much algae and lily pads and "seaweed" growth underneath, it was not a sandy bottom at all. Maybe if I had a paddle boat, I'd go out, but otherwise, there was way too much undergrowth that I deemed it not swimmable.||||All in all, it was a nice campground! Office staff and seasonals were nice, no loud parties late at night, nice layout of all the sites,...
Read moreI’ll start by saying that very little of my review has much to do with the actual workings of the place. It just wasn’t our style. Here’s what we didn’t love:|1. The camp store stinks. And I mean smells terribly - like mildew or a mild sewage. They also sell food in there. It’s reasonably priced for a campground, but the aroma made all four of us lose our appetites.|2. The park seems to be more of a long-term stay kind of place. We were only there for a couple of nights. So if whirlybirds, ramshackle front porches, careening golf cards full of floaties are your vibe you’ll love it.|3. The camp shop sells gifts that read “Day Drinkin’”, “Drink Wisconsinably”, and “Wisconsin, outdrinking every state since 1848” - so that’s sort of the atmosphere.|4. Showers were pretty gross|5. The sites are PACKED together, like not even a bush or a tree between you and your neighbor. It was ok, just not our thing. Especially when a lot of the sites looked like a modern day Sanford and Sons. There were sites filled with broken dolls, old decorations, inner tubes and various things. So not a terribly “natural “ feel.|6. There was a sweet little boardwalk over a swampy area that we were excited to see, but it was littered with soda bottles, beer cans and other garbage, so less cool that we hoped.|7. The lake is one of those murky, silty, weedy type of lakes - ok for kayaks, not something we lived for swimming but other people did.|What we liked:|1. The cool sheltered arcade area|2. The pool was nice - but again -PACKED with zero social distance measures in place|3. The playground - it’s huge with fun stuff|4. The kids working in the camp store they were super kind and helpful and hustled the ENTIRE DAY.|All in all - this might be your scene- it just wasn’t ours. We have teens and upper elementary kids, nobody was...
Read more3 Stars is reaching… While the campground is on beautiful land it just wasn’t for us. First, the campground was overcrowded and It appeared to us that most of the other campers were “seasonal regulars” and they were extremely unfriendly. Cons: the very rude older woman that works in the general store, golf carts speed around the site 24/7 (some driven by 10 year olds,) un-level spaces, our sewer hookup was clogged & unusable and the 50 amp electric hookup had no breaker. Additionally, the laundry room desperately needs an upgrade; the washers were dirty, outdated, extremely small and 1 of the 3 was out of service (several people told me it’s been out of service for awhile.) Pros: Close proximity to several towns, a nice general store, lots of activities for kids including a petting zoo, pool, mini golf and a fishing pond. Again, I just don’t think this campground was for us. We love to have a good time and socialize, however the overcrowded space full of rude campers is...
