Slide Mountain Motel — Hotel in Town of Shandaken

This is not the worst place I've seen. If you can ignore the old furniture that doesn't match - as if each piece was salvaged from a dump, the worst aspect were the several spider webs on the walls. We were hoping to do a last minute short trip to Woodstock, N.Y., & because the Woodstock Film Festival was going on - a great indie movie fest - there were hardly any vacancies around. We managed to find this place, a few miles outside of Woodstock, & decided to take a chance. The bathroom appeared to be clean, & was perhaps recently renovated, but the rest of the room was old. I would have given this place a 2nd star if the entire room was clean, & if the 1 night we endured there didn't cost us over $200. I can tolerate a modest environment if it's clean, & if the price reflects the ambiance, but I cannot help but feel that we were robbed. Maybe the people running this place are trying to gradually renovate it, but it was worth about half of what we paid, even if the room had an adjacent smaller room, that accommodated 3 of us. We told the attendant about the webs, & he came to the room & cleaned them, but he should have then offered something as compensation. Doubtlss to say, we will not...

This is a great little spot. Clean, quiet and only 25 minutes from Woodstock. Full kitchen with pots, pans, dishes, sponge, soap, coffee,tea, toaster, microwave, full size fridge and 4 burner stove. A motel with a REAL kitchen. Comfortable bed, nice bedding, and great water. The water in that area is naturally high in sulfur. If you've ever been to a sulfur hotspring, you know how great it is for your skin. Yeah, okay, it smells a little funny, but get over it, its spa water! You can't taste it too much from the cold tap ( fine for you to drink) but its nice to come prepared with a good juice concentrate ( like pomegranate) and add a little splash to the water when you drink it if you don't like very mild sulfur taste. Or just bring bottled h20. The owner is cool and will give you a good rate of you are cool too. This is not the kind of place to come and be loud, drunk and rowdy. This a spot that is perfect for a single or a couple who want to explore/enjoy Woodstock and surrounding areas on a budget and have all their own amenities and privacy (you won't find your own bathroom AND kitchen on Airbnb for this price. The owner is a total scammer!!! He listed $85 /per room available on the website, but when I called, only $140 /per room is available. Since we were going to hike on slide mountain and owner said that it will be a full refund if the reservation is cancelled before 4 pm at same day, we made reservation while still deciding the trip. But the trip did work out for us, so we sent text message to cancel the reservation around 3 pm on same day we made reservation and 3 days before the date of staying, Owner told us that only the half of the money will be refunded.||My friend was hiking in area during the days that we booked with this motel, there was no sign of people staying and office was closed. The owner uses the motel to play scam game, I am so glad that we didn't go to this motel.||||Be ware, people try to find place to stay in the area!!! Stay away...
