Hampton Ocean Resort — Hotel in Town of Southampton

We recently completed a three-night stay. It was quite evident from the start that "resort" is a misnomer. Once you find the place (not easily done), the location is as advertised, right on the beach. And it's a really nice beach. So that's the main plus. But the building, grounds, rooms, "amenities" all had a kind of neglected, "(way) past-its-prime" feel. Our room had a kitchen set-up (stove, microwave, fridge, sink )- but not a single item that one could use to take advantage, not a fork, a spoon, a pot, a cup, nothing. Neither TV worked until we purchased batteries for the remotes. Once working, the TV in the sitting room received only 3 broadcast networks (ABC, NBC and Fox), plus PBS. The TV in the bedroom got essentially nothing. There's a little lawn-ish area out back, but poorly installed sprinkler heads create a constant tripping hazard. There's a coffee pot in the lobby, but almost never any coffee. The "staffing" is laid-back, in the extreme, and rarely in evidence. Finding a clean towel for the beach was a challenge, I once helped myself from behind the counter when I couldn't raise a staff member.

It's a lower cost alternative than many other on-the-beach hotels, so we went in with what I thought were pretty realistic expectations. Regrettably, the Hampton Ocean Resort underwhelmed, even as compared to the fairly low...

I'm giving five stars for the hostess (Donna) who was lovely and basically gave us free range to snacks, water, the fridges and even offered to grill a hamburger for me.|Also for the location which is one of the nicest beaches of all time and it's literally steps from the cottage. I had the best night ever settling into the cottage and spending an hour on the beach late at night - no one there and amazing. the location cannot be beat - you are right on a spit of land with the bay on one side an the ocean on the other and right near Quogue, Westhampton and Hampton Bays -I had dinner in Westhampton which is a 10 minute drive.||Also went for a 22 mile bike ride down and back to the park which is west but east is also a scenic ride. Hardly anyone out this way.|Rooms are a bit dated and could use a refresh but AC worked, very comfortable though not luxurious. Well kept up property and I would definitely come back. I recently stayed at Hampton Ocean Resort and had such a wonderful experience. The entire staff was incredibly welcoming, professional, and attentive to every detail during our stay. From check-in to check-out, everyone made sure we felt comfortable and cared for.

I especially want to mention a kid named Chris who works there. He was truly outstanding – so polite, friendly, and hardworking. He went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed, whether it was carrying beach chairs, giving us great local recommendations, or just checking in to see if everything was okay. His positive attitude and genuine kindness made such a difference in our trip. You can tell he really cares about the guests and takes pride in his work.
