This is our first stay at the Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA. We were greeted by extremely accommodating hosts. We had booked a site based on the size of our RV, however they realized we would not fit before we saw the site. So they moved us to a much larger and beautiful site. We really appreciated that. The campground was great, little kids running around having a good time and being loud, which I as a grandma love to hear. That being said, I really only have 2 concerns that would make it difficult for us to return. The WIFI was horrendous, we were only able to stay in for about 2 minutes at a time, I was booted twice trying to fill out an IRS form. We as KOA campers love and look forward to the activities. Bingo is something we play at every KOA we have gone to. The cost seemed to be steep in comparison to all others, ( but we were willing to pay) however They have no accommodations for kids or teens that want to play. I am a camper, and to be honest, I bring my grandkids to include them, not exclude in thing we do, most campgrounds understand that. Some KOA's give prizes, others do Candy. This campground just excludes anyone under 18. with the "blame NYS" motto. The cost of the fire wood was also more than I have seen. Being they are new, I am hoping that maybe they will reach out to other KOA's and mirror some of their policies and pricing. it is a very nice campground and well kept as far as I could see. I am glad we went, Being a KOA Member, we...
Read moreWe stayed at the Sterling Creek Campground from July 5th(afternoon)- July 8th(AM). The folks that run the place were very friendly and accommodating when needed. We stayed in a small cabin with a full sized bed(you need to bring your own linens), rather small when you're used to a queen, but it beats sleeping on the floor. It was surprisingly comfortable. There is also a twin size mattress under the bed for another person. It would've been nicer with a ceiling fan or a box fan, luckily we brought our own, so it wasn't too stuffy. There are 3 windows which can be opened to help circulate the air. The cabin has a small fridge/freezer, microwave and coffee maker (bring your own coffee/creamer/sugar). Outside has a nice area for a fire (the office sells wood, ice and other smaller things, it's not a general store) with a fireplace and picnic tables. There is an RV very close on the one side, so you will have neighbors, most likely. You can use the bath house to do your business or take a shower. Be sure to bring quarters for the shower. It costs $1 for about 5 mins. I personally think a timer without having to pay is a better option. If the pay option remains, I would explore one that takes cash or debit. The campground is pet friendly, but dogs aren't allowed in the cabin, so plan accordingly. All-in-all a good trip. We would use this campground...
Read moreIf you hope to get any privacy, go somewhere else. Rented the medium size cabin for 3 days, it worked, but wasn't as comfortable as i had hoped it would be. There is no room between sites. So there didn't feel like there was much privacy. You can hear everything going on outside and from outside you can hear everything whispered in the cabin. It's got the smallest shower with the smallest water heater. Warm shower only for 8 min. So I guess you have to only turn the water on when you rinse. Oh, and the smell, taste and feeling the water leaves on your skin is disgusting. We couldn't drink the water. They said they have their well chlorine treated but it does not smell like chlorine. It smells like swamp. And tastes awful. The bathroom stinks so bad from the toilet water I had to burn incense the whole time we were here to even bare to be in it. Thankfully we weren't here to spend time in the cabin. So we weren't there much. But it was more comfortable than tent camping. But for the price, next time I think I'll go to a hotel or something closer to the beach. Because for what it was, I don't believe it was...
