More of a 3.3 rating. This was our first time to stay at Sunflower acres. Let me preface this with the fact that we are full-time RVers so we stay in hundreds of parks over the past six years. Sunflower is a “camping” campground. Most people who stay here are seasonal and come here for the outdoors and to build a fire. Seriously, these guys have lots of fires. The setting of the campground is very pretty. They have done some nice upgrades, mainly to the pool area. The main reason we have rated this campground a little lower is because of the new sites where we were put. They built out a new area and these sites are very narrow and built on total gravel rocks. With all the land available, they did not make these into real sites. It was tough to park our rig. The campsite is bordered only with railroad ties. And we felt like we were on top of each other with those staying in the other sites. They have plenty of land where they could have made this a much nicer area. The utilities, mainly they sewer, is very far from where it should be. I had to connect two large hoses and my neighbor had four hoses. The water pressure was almost nonexistent at times. We filled our fresh tank many times just so we could shower. The roads to the campground are very narrow with lots of low hanging trees. If you’re looking for a place to spend a week camping outdoors, this might be your place. For us I don’t think we will come back. Also, cell service was very spotty and they charge for Wi-Fi. So don’t come expecting to use any Internet or streaming. I will give them credit in that the British owners are very sweet people. I just wish the campground was laid out better.

Where to begin…. My family and I spent around 6 weeks at this campground. From the very beginning the owners were very sweet and accommodating and treated us like family. We were a last min camper and needed a semi long stay. There were no sites available and mark was more than eager to say you can dock in the grass by the office. Luckily, there was a cancellation and we got a lot nestled next to him and his wife. While at this campground I was fortunate enough to meet some awesome people, develop relationships, watch our kids make memories and learn many life skills they wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do at home. The new owners are taking this campground to the next level and embracing the potential this campground has. I was able to participate in various projects around the park and was able to leave my mark on it. The pool has been redone ,bathrooms renovated, new doors in the store, the store has gotten a facelift, the laundry is all brand new machines for a fraction of the laundromat prices. Very peaceful and secluded but within 10-15 mins of anything you may need. Fishing at the pond and walking the property, the playground is decent and has been reconditioned. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Def be back to stay next year for a vacay. Highly recommend.

Re: our recent stay T4 First off, our full fee was collected back in January without so much as a receipt or email confirmation; not just a deposit, but full fee for our July trip. We, 6 units, were told we would have pull through sites ( two had cars on, that had to be taken off first; more stress) and be in the brand "new area"; great!.. The website shows lots of trees and grass but not for us; we were where used trailers are usually stacked. Not only were the sites so very close, but it's all stones, the septic is up front right where you are sitting and eating; very poorly planned "new area"; And, by the way, eating only as we had to ask for picnic tables to be brought down to us from others sites or we would not have had any at all!! The camp store was closed a lot and we had to go out daily as there was no ice! its 93 all week and no ice; you need a back up, to the back up. Stones were not level, much stress getting level and each day brought doors not shutting, water pressure low and having to jack up and attempt to level again, which is probably why my refrigerator was not working properly, you need to be level and things on stones were never level! There was a nice pool, albeit, the 3 days we used it, I had to use the skimmer to clean all the bugs floating, not sure the skimmer units work very well. The saving grace was the band hired to entertain on sat night, and your staff was very helpful and courteous. We camp a lot and have never had this experience; this "new area" is not good and I do not think you should rent it out as is.

Thank you,

B...

Definitely a campsite reminiscent of my childhood, a little rough around the edges, truly dated reservation tracking (i ended up needing to swap sites with another customer that had the same first name due to the confusion it caused).

Playground facilities are definitely older but entertaining for most of the target audience (but not meant for toddlers/anyone under 4).

Sites aren't super spacious but adequate - most of them seem to be set-up as pull through sites which makes parking much easier.

There are a few trails to explore but I wouldn't call them anything more than an hour or two of entertainment with little kids. Creek areas are nice as well and another option for exploring. Lots of fossils to be found!

We weren't able to check out the pool but it seems like it would be wonderful mid summer on a hot day.

Tractor pulled barrel train was a wonderful highlight our second night there but be ready as it fills up fast. They should extend the activity time a bit to make sure everyone gets a chance to ride (we talked the driver in to a second trip as our youngest didn't make the first trip).

All in all a family friend experience with lots of old school throw backs. Owners are super nice but they could work on their organization a bit (granted it was the first weekend of the...
